****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

mobilefun has official accessories now.

Listed yeah but not to buy, just preorder. It's around a month before they come into stock.

Feeling very nervous without a screen protector or case! I've bought a cheap gel case from amazon to tide me over until a decent brand comes out. I'm way too clumsy to be using this without some form of protection against damage.

annoyed...

DHL tracking is showing as it arrived at my local depot at 4.55am...from around midday its had a status of "In Transit". I've just called a customer services number and he thinks that it hasnt gone out because it would have been received on the BH...but I explained their tracking screen says it came in this morning...so I asked him what In Transit means.....and he couldnt say whether it meant transit as in moving or transit as in sitting in a van!

The bootscreen and shutoff screen can easily be changed by flashing the XWKDD firmware.

True and probably the first thing I'd do. Although I wait a bit to see if the phone is 100%. If it starts playing up and you've flashed a generic firmware I'd be concerned about taking it back without the branding. Would they see that as voiding the warranty? With my SGS I downloaded and decrypted the stock O2 firmware from the FUS server just in case I ever needed to flash it back.

Same, I had the phone in a thick woolly sock in my backpack when I cycled into work this morning :D

I got this to tide me over:

Seems fine enough for £4. No screen protectors on the market yet though. Are these invisible shield ones any good? Not out yet but they do have them listed as a preorder.

Sadly i can't get audio out of the phone with DTS video files. I will be interested to see if it acts as a passthrough and allows an AV receiver to decode it, if so i'm happy as i'll still be able to watch films on a HDTV. Will be very disappointed if DTS is a no go though, all the reviews stated it could play 'everything they threw at it', with DTS being a rather popular codec it looks like they didn't throw much...

Just got my S2 and it's ridiculously good... best phone i've ever had/seen/used.

Anyone noticed how good the resolution looks for 800x480? For instance it's very hard to see each of the screens pixels, as if each of the pixels are a lot closer together than usual, and the screen is just sharper and more detailed than what you would get on other LCD phone displays of the same res... the text/graphics look sharper on the S2 and more detailed. Must have something to do with how AMOLED+ works i guess.

The only thing that bothered me about this phone was the res, i wanted higher, but now i've seen the display it totally looks like an LCD 960x640 phone display does with the level of detail and pixel density, even though it's not...

It's to do with something called subpixels. Samsung made a statement that resolution 'wasn't everything' and they assured people that the screen would stand up to the best. I was dubious at first but i agree with them now.

Personally, i can't see any real difference between the SGS2 screen and the so called 'Retina Display' that the iphone4 has in terms of smoothness. You can't see a pixel on either.

Hmm I might just dump £300 on the o2 PayG offer it seems and bin the o2 sim, get it unlocked then continue with my Vodafone contract :D

Saves £100 for a bit of extra legwork and the money saved goes towards desk cradle and so on :D

Awesome!

I'll be ordering next week as I am awaiting for some funds to clear.

Unless anyone can confirm any negatives to the o2 PayG handset?

The screen is amazing, everyone I have shown the phone to is in awe.

If that is true, then I will be genuinely stunned. I've got my iPhone 4 here ready for a direct comparison :p

It won't match the LG unit for text sharpness but its high contrast will pick out image details an LCD can't (that's why most will say it's clearer)
Going by all the screen blogs sAMOLED+ will be the best screen until ~2013 (or the iPhone 7 if we're using that as a yard stick?)
Everyone else is miles behind... (Maybe the 5" OLED on NGP? This could be either a white OLED backlight type, like Sonys new uber expensive broadcast monitors, or just a standard pentile AMOLED?)

Unless anyone can confirm any negatives to the o2 PayG handset?

Just the splash/shutdown screen and being network locked, I think...

Paul O'Brien got his SGS2 today (the founder of Modaco) and just posted this on Twitter -

Hate to say it, but the general speed and responsiveness of the SGS II makes the O2X look a bit embarrassing. :-/

Considering people were pretty "blown away" by the O2X, that is quite something...

:D
