****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I'm about to order one of these from 02 & have registered with Topcashback to get the £90 cashback. I intend to go for the £27 pm 300 mins/500MB internet/unlimited texts + £50 for the handset.

I have held off buying what will be my first ever smartphone awaiting the right one to come on the market. I had thought of waiting a bit longer for the HTC Sensation but just comparing the two phones in terms of spec & the Samsung just seems superior.

Just wanted to ask for some advice on buying online - anything I need to watch out for using TCB or ordering directly through the 02 site?

Many thanks.

yeah delete cookies and crud. if you wanna make super sure, reboot :D - load up website go direct to cashback site and follow links, dont open up any other browsers, you will be fine.

i once lost £50 cash back as i was using comparable sites and quidco at the time said they had been credited with the link :(

hey guys just got mine on 3 but ive noticed i got one little dead pixel in the bottom corner if anything loads up with a black screen has anyone else got one could i take it back as a result? lovely phone tho

How did you get yours from 3 so quickly? They aren't meant to be releasing it till Friday 13th.

I've had a flick thru this thread regarding HSDPA speeds on T-Mobile contracts bought from buymobilephones.net.

I've only been getting 300kbps via HSDPA in various locations. I read that there's a speed cap.
So I've just called T-Mobile directly (not buymobilephones) and the staff member was saying something that resellers (carphone, buymobilephones) only add a 'basic' free internet bolt-on, which has speed caps.
But because im using an Android phone, he said he would remove the basic internet bolt-on, and change it to an android one.

This meant I also needed to choose another bolt-on in exchange for free internet. Bonus!
So I went for free minutes to US + Canada (which i probably wont use, but I had to choose one on the spot).

I'm really pleased with that. So not only have I had the speed cap removed, but I've got an extra bolt-on. Staff member was v friendly.
I've come from o2 to T-Mobile, so that's a pretty good start so far :)

Same outcome as me. They are mucking my brother around though.

so there is a cap after both companies saying there isn't? will ring up tomorrow to see what they say, how come you guys got a free bolt on as well? i'd like to have free voicemail minutes (can't belive they charge you for calling voicemail even if you have minutes!) as at 12p per minute that's crazy

Well I loved my Desire... BUT the Galaxy S 2 had me too tempted!

Thanks to phones for you, I now have one :D Do.Love!

Still to have a proper play with it, all I have done so far is install FB, a racing game (200mb download!!) just to see how it plays and singed into google!

Pictures look superb on it, and everything is just so smooth... I cant seem to make it stutter no matter what I do to it! :D

No one at buymobilephones or tmobile knew anything about it before i took the contract. First person i spoke to after knew all about it but it just depends who you speak to. Pretty poor to be honest.

Free bolt on seems to be because with an android phone the data should be included already, hence the left over booster.

The 'Unlimited Internet' bolt-on that's included in the contract has a fair usage policy of 500mb per month. But also you're restricted to 3G data speeds (around 300kbps), so even if you're using HSDPA then your speeds will be restricted to that of 3G.

I don't think they are supposed to remove the cap, but if you find a friendly staff then they will sort it for you.
Because I wasn't sure which bolt-on I would choose, I asked if I could call tomorrow and let him know. But he said the person you talk to tomorrow might not be willing to do it for you.

So I guess it does depend on whether you talk to a happy chappy, or a miserable goat.

The Sensation 1080p looks good but in all the parts where you could hear the audio the mic quality leaves very little to be desired!

Unless they improve that too :p The GSII mic is excellent though.

I wonder if Samsung will allow zooming in an update for 1080p too now that we know it can be done...

Or XDA Devs :p

I am a bit confused by the storage section, it says there is 11.50gb remaining on USB storage? It has a inbuilt USB storage? How do I save to this for example when I am browsing. Or is it only meant to be used when connected to PC and you drop whatever you want in there?

Thanks.

Owned! I actually had a bath with mine, played some games, browsed the forums etc! Only a matter of time though... :(

2 levels of storage, the internal storage is 16GB shared with the system so 2GB is reserved for app storage, 11.5GB or whatever for user storage (camera/docs/images/music etc) and then there's the external sd card which is seen as external_sd. The internal storage (USB storage) is seen as sdcard by the phone.

It's different to other Android phones so could be confusing at first but it seems quite logical now.

Ah that makes more sense, thanks!

Yup, when you mount the phone as a USB device in Windows both internal and external drives will show up in My Computer so you can easily manage files and stuff.
