****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I have a standard unrooted SGS2 sim free from CPW. Did the KE2 update and had serious problems. EVentually reset the phone to factory standard and had to reinstall all my apps and sync my contacts and calendar individually. Kept crashing otherwise.

Did you manage to get any better answers from T-Mobile regarding this Mammalian?

Argh! Dust! The one reason why I hate wrap around cases lol. Wiping away dust is a chore because it just collects at the edges and since there's no edge falloff on a wraparound case....well you get the picture.

I might trim off the bottom wrap lip on the case so then I can just wipe dust down and off the screen :)

yeah i know what you mean. when i saw you had the same case on the last page i though i'd ask if you have the same problem but looks like you do. my solution to it is to use the spinning galaxy live wallpaper as then the dust particules just look like the stars :p should try it as it looks better.

which is the second case you'll be using for the car mount? can you put the current phone and case into the car mount? as the case is fairly well put on it's going to be hard to take it off every day when using as a satnav/mounted music player

Having just come from an iPhone 3GS I was a bit sceptical of whether I would get on with Android, but how wrong could I be. Epic phone and just gets better with use.

Upgraded the firmware without issue and just noticed that there is a firmware update for the camera within Samsung Apps (which also has an update).

:)

Rumour mill here guys: someone posted that the update fixed "a bug related to automatic-brightness was addressed, Swype was made more responsive and some connectivity issues were fixed"

More rumour mill guys: someone said that Vodafone would be selling the NFC version in june, could all be just speculation...so dont quote me:p
And no I do not have mine yet!!!!

Updated to KE2 (via Odin of course - many thanks to Intratech for firmware downloads etc.), and also took the opportunity to root it.

Now my question is what protective measure should I carry out before I do anything else? I saw a post on XDA about backing up the EFS folder and it's contents, so I'll probably do that. But is there anything else I should really being doing? Or not doing as the case may be.

I tried to upgrade using kies, took about 5 minutes then dll fail error message and the phone is sitting with a android icon and says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!!"

Have I screwed this thing up? What can I do to get it back to full working order?

Thanks

No it's fine. There's any number of guides, but basically flash it with ODIN. See below, but look for the latest firmware on XDA or www.samfirmware.com

For manual update if you're having problems with Kies

1) Firmware

Download the correct firmware for your phone. Extract the zip file to a tar file. Do not extract the tar file.

Sim Free Firmware - I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1
O2UK Firmware - I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100O2UKE1

2) Download Odin (flash utility)

Odin3-v1.85.zip

3) Prepare Odin

Launch Odin and check "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time"
Load the firmware downloaded in step 1 in PDA.

4)Download mode.
Put the phone in to Download mode ready for flashing
- Power Off
- Press and hold Vol Down + Home + Power.
- Once the Andriod logo is displayed connect the phone to PC
- in Odin ID:COM will turn yellow. You are now ready to flash.

5) A Successful Flash

6) Factory Reset (Optional)

There are three ways to reset the phone, through Dialer, Settings or Recovery mode.

- Dialer, enter *2767*3855#
- Settings, Privacy, Factory data reset.
- Recovery mode. Power off the phone, press and hold Vol Up + Home + Power. Use the Vol keys to navigate the menus and Home to action.

Thanks for that. It told me the upgrade was unsuccessful & to start emergency recovery. I turned phone off, battery out & restarted but phone seems fine. Should I follow the recovery procedure anywat? Will I look my contacts, photos etc?

Thanks again

Turns out I'm really good at blowing so I just blow the dust away :D

Wait, that sounds naughtier than it should....

3. How do I change the 'theme' on the desktop for want of a better explanation?

Thanks.

I am still waiting for someone to give me an answer to .3 please. I want to change the home screen and get rid of some of the widgets on it (or whatever they are called) and just change the appearance. Also looking for some nice backgrounds.

Also, how do I switch apps off? It doesn't seem obvious to me - I end up using the back arrow to go back to applications or whatever.

Tried the emrg recovery through Kies & again I get the Dll fail error message. But phone seems to work fine , can't see anything wrong with it. Restarted it & attached to PC, kies picks it up & offers the new firmware update again. Am I OK to leave things as they are?
