On the subject of car holders. Im waiting for the official one, anyone seen them on sale somewhere yet?

EDIT:

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/genuine-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-vehicle-dock-p28967.htm

see like that one wont work with a case as in the description it says will fit perfectly so at a gues there will be no extra room for the case

edit: this looks like it might be what i want but wonder how good it is

I think I'm gonna pick up a griffin windowseat for mine, seems nice and compact and should accommodate the phone + case as well as any other phones you may have.

Think I've got a problem with my battery life. I've not been taking my phone to work because I'm still on my other contract so haven't wanted to take 2 phones everywhere.

This morning at 9am I left my phone on 92% battery life.
Came home at 6pm and the battery was critical.

Only application that I have running is widgetlocker for the lock screen. My wifi was on and connected and the GPS turned off. Screen is set to lowest brightness. Just can't understand why it would use so much battery sitting there with a blank screen. I've read people turn off.background data sync, but does that mean that my Gmail won't get pushed through or Facebook notifications?

Not particularly impressed. I updated to the lastest firmware yesterday which was the number 2 update.since I got the phone.

Any suggestions?

Just get one of these:

(On the youtube review for this the guy said it was sturdy and built well and more especially since it was so cheap)

Or make one like i have. Those above linked look too big, I have one similar on my Desire and it was just too cumbersome to have around and looked a bit out of place in my car anyway.

Definitely something dodgy going on, there must be something else using the battery. I'm currently on 24% after almost 16 hours with Wifi on all the time, almost 2.5 hours with the display on, auto-sync on for push GMail and I generally check Twitter/Facebook every 30 mins or so as well.

Ah well that's disappointing to know. Not got a clue what it could be, I only have the calendar and weather widget running aswell. It's my first android phone so there must be something I'm doing wrong. If I hold the home button, and open up task manager, is that the correct way to shut apps down?

as far as i know on the samsung that's the correct way but it's a waste of time imo as it shouldn't be that quickly going. i used to close apps on my hero but don't bother on this it's too poweful to bother thinking which is "open". send it back would be my advice or get a replacement battery sent out and swapped.

khan: how have you attached the case to the mount? is it permantely attached or have you like slipped the phone with case always on then onto the mount if that makes sense? or have you (hoping not but thinking may be as you've got a better case now) made it so to use the car mount you have to take the official case off then put the phone into the old case which is always mounted on your dash?

Went in P4U near me and they wanted £19.99 for it so ended up ordering from the link I was given on here from ebay for £9.

Same here, on display @p4u it was £19.95, so I asked him if the price was correct, he took it and scanned it at the till and it came up as £9.95 so I bought one.

Something isn't right, this is one of the best smartphones I've had when it comes to battery life. I'm very impressed with it.

I had an email this morning from buymobilephones.net with a stock alert saying they expect more handsets in 10-14 days despite the website saying tomorrow :(

More annoyingly, they have taken the £49.99 payment for the phone already but they won't run the credit check until stock is available, so I can't even be 100% certain I will get it anyway.

Well sounds like there's definitely something wrong with my battery. The only strange thing I've noticed is that my ram seems to be quite high all the time 500/833mb with nothing running in the background.

Right, got mine last night, left it charging, now at work ready to root.

Downloaded all the relevant stuff, but my work's AV means I can't use SuperOneClick.

Running XP at work, is the only other root option to do it manually in ADB?

thats worrying.. how long ago did you order it?

What are the advantages of rooting the phone? Does this effectively mean that the user ID running all the apps is root? I checked yesterday from a terminal and it's app_157 or something similar as standard.

Is it really a good idea rooting if this is the case - 1 app with a dodgy bit of code could to a lot of damage while running as root...?

I thought there was a problem with mine as well, I could barely get 12 hours out of a full charge. But as soon as I updated to the new firmware it's now sitting on 70% after a day (light use). I'd definitely use something like android task killer, also I'd get rid of the samsung apps, especially the social app as it eats the battery.

If you use ADB you will have to manually install Superuser and BusyBox etc. It's just more faff. SuperOneCLick streamlines all that into, well, one click :p

TBH just wait unti you are home, the whole process takes minutes really.

1a: Make sure USB debugging is enabled in Settings > Applications > Development

1: Install the KDD insecure kernel with Odin with phone in download mode.
2: Reboot.
3: Run SuperOneClick with phone running normally and just click "Root" and choose to install Superuser etc when prompted.
4: Reboot into Download Mode
5: Run Odin again and flash the official Kernel of the FW version you have (KE1/KE2 etc), this removes the yellow caution sign on the boot splash screen.
6: Celebrate.

Probably worth getting BusyBox Installer off the Market and updating to the latest BusyBox version (1.19) as OneClick installs 1.17.
