****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Hi all, I am on my second day with android and the s2. I just have a few questions.

I managed to kill my battery in 4 hours, I'm hoping after a few charges and discharges this will improve. Am I right?

Can anyone tell me how to stop the gallery app showing all my music album covers, its very annoying and can't seem to find a way to stop it.

Has anyone got Copilot? I can't get it to download any maps, on the device or on my PC as Copilot Central is a joke and doesn't even see the phone as a device when plugged in.

Any help would be much appreciated

^Running down the phone quickly is just a consequence of getting a new phone, constantly fiddling and all. However flasing to the latest firmware and using the battery calibrator helps a lot.

There's an app called "Gallery Excluder" which stops the system seeing media in certain folders but it also means it won't see the music so its only useful if you navigate music using folders in a media player such as PowerAMP. Other option is to download Quickpic and use it as your default gallery app. You can choose which folders you want to see pictures from.

Dunno bout the Copilot thing but you're not the first person on here that I've seen with that problem.

Ive been playing with my phone for almost 4 hours straight today and am only down to 71%. Phenomenal.

O2 is so slow to release firmware for it, I'm still on KE2 and it says this is the latest firmware for my phone in Kies. Wonder what would happen if I force updated to KE7 using Odin.

For some reason I can't send texts anymore, was fine yesterday up until around 6pm where it keeps saying 'failed'. On a brand new Orange contract through P4U.

Can anyone check their SMSC number for me, mine's showing 00 which I think is incorrect, I reckon I've changed it accidentally :(

Cheers

EDIT: Fixed it, the Message Centre number was blank for some reason, changed it to Orange's and everything's fine now.

If you guys using TW4 want to change the default home screen its pretty simple providing you got root.

All I did was install root explorer and go to the /system/default.prop, In root explorer click mount R/W at the top, then i pressed on default.prop until the options popped up and went on permissions and just ticked the write boxes for it then ok.

Next I clicked the same on default.prop then selected open in text editor and simply added this line ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3, as shown in screen shot.

Saved it then rebooted phone, if you want window 4 for your home screen for example you put 3 so you always put a number under to what you want to use.

Admittedly that was with quite light usage. I factory reset after installing KE7, used Battery Calibrator and JuiceDefender. Pretty impressed! :D

Has anyone bothered with overclocking tools like SetCPU yet? From what I can see when I go in the app, the GII has its own version of SPeedI bought it and set it so that the phone scales between 500mhz when nothing is going on, to 1200mhz when needed and I think this might well help with the battery consumption, especially at idle. I won't overclock though... there's really point with this device imo, and it's rare I say things like that.

EDIT - Hmm, don't fiddle with he CPU too much... I think I set it too low when the screen is off and it's now staynig black... not good. WIll pull battery and revert that methinks. :S

Is there a cheaper alternative to root explorer?

Don't be such a tightwad and buy it, it will be useful for a long time. :p

The annoying thing is that anyone should have to fiddle around at all to get better battery life from the phone. :(

Is KE7 an older or more recent ROM (kernel?) Did you use ODIN or Kies?

Just got mine and having issues with wifi compared to other phones. It shown fair to poor connection and speed drops down to single digits speed wise, it been sitting a 1Mbps at times so the performance is awful. The iPhone, iPad, BB and wife's San Francisco allwork perfectly.

Tried resetting your router? :)

Yes reset router, switched channels analysed wifi spectrum etc. the ipad and other phones all continue to work perfectly

It must be some kind of setting surely... mine is working perfectly. Can you backup all your settings etc and then try a factory reset? Are you running KE7?
