****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I find it funny hearing people in here who have obviously had smart phones before saying how good the battery is, as this is my first smart phone it's quite a shocker having to be near a charger a lot... or at least having charging on the back of my mind more often, my old phone I could charge once in 4 days lol

Just the reality of smart phones in general, the only real yard stick is other phones like it. Saying that theirs nothing out on the market thats just up to the SGSII tech wise. Be interesting to see what the iP4s can muster.

True, but phones are now turning into mini laptops with complex OS's... we've come a long way since Symbian Nokias. :)

This was my biggest bugbear about changing to a smartphone, but in all honesty, it's like Richdog said above; these phones are basically pocket computers now and it means I don't need to lug a laptop about to check mail, do casual browsing, check my schedule and so on. Fair trade off, and I get a full day out of mine easily. Not ideal but it's the way it is.

Sadly, my battery drain issues continue. After a full recharge and callibration, my battery has lost 5% power in 45 minutes. I've sent two text messages. The screen has been off apart from when I was texting. I'm not alone, however, there's a big thread on XDA. I might try flashing it back a step, or removing all of the apps I've downloaded.

What do your battery stats say just out of interest?

Something very wrong there, 60 minutes of 720p video and 10 minutes playing Samurai II (full screen brightness for both) only took me to 80%

I'm monitoring and documenting my battery stats now. After 1h19m of usage, my display was responsible for 36% of usage, but Android OS was responsible for 56% (!!!). Down to 91% overall in that time.

I'm systematically removing/freezing apps and services and I'll check again in 80 minutes (my randomly assigned timeframe :D). This time, I've removed my Simi widgets from the home screen and turned off Wifi from the status bar. Baby steps :D

I'll update at 11, if I haven't thrust my face through my monitor!

edit: Wellibob, I understand my GF better than I understand the Android OS usage on my phone :D

Can someone tell me how to enable 1080p youtube videos as they've done in this review ?
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9100_galaxy_s_ii-review-597p10.php#
I was trying "Full version for youtube" app and I can open desktop version of YT pages in default browser however I am unable to select playback quality as the {480p 720p 1080p} drop-down disappears immediately after I click on it. Also is there some way how to force default browser to open all pages in their classical "desktop" versions ? About:debug doesn't seem to do anything for me. Or do I need some different browser in order to achieve this ? Which one is the best for SGS2 ? (I tried Opera mini and Skyfire but not sure whether I like them - PS: yes this is my first smartphone)

Also, excellent battery indicator mod fror thiose with rooted phones here http://www.techofweb.com/google/show-circular-battery-indicator-android-phones.html

It positions itself on the left of the status bar, displays percentage in 1% increments, and changes colour as the battery strength changes. If only you could easily make it replace the stock indicator on the right.

You can easily, here is 3 different modified battery indicators that show percentage.

On this video they go through Youtube.com on the stock ANdroid browser i think? http://www.freesharevideos.com/1080p-youtube-viewing-on-the-galaxy-s-ii/

Will test it myself.

Saw that before but looks a bit trickier than rooting... will have a read and digest, cheers. :)

The dirty way but easyiest way is to just copy and paste over the existing file (after making a backup) using root explorer, you'll get a a lot of FC's as you're replacing a file already in use but just restart the phone and everything will be peachy.

As said above just type in your address bar about:useragent

Then select desktop and it works and it won't ever load up a mobile version of a site also.

Cool so instead of about:debug -> about:useragent is the way how to change user agent - after clearing all cache and data and setting it to desktop now I it always loads desktop versions of web pages (on default browser). Finally ! However the problem with YT video quality selection remains - immediately after I click on the button the dropdown with quality options flashes just for tiny moment and then disappears. I don't understand how they could make it stay popped up in that video. Can someone else try if they experience similar problem ?

Hi all, I am on my second day with android and the s2. I just have a few questions.

I managed to kill my battery in 4 hours, I'm hoping after a few charges and discharges this will improve. Am I right?

Can anyone tell me how to stop the gallery app showing all my music album covers, its very annoying and can't seem to find a way to stop it.

Has anyone got Copilot? I can't get it to download any maps, on the device or on my PC as Copilot Central is a joke and doesn't even see the phone as a device when plugged in.

Any help would be much appreciated

My SGS2 has been shipped today by o2 and should be with me on Thuesday :) Going from my hero which I loved but it was time for an upgrade :)

Reading up, im going to debrand it as soon as I get it and update it to the KE7 if not already. Does following the unbranding on the xda forums root it too or is this something else that I need to do?

Thanks
