****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

It must be some kind of setting surely... mine is working perfectly. Can you backup all your settings etc and then try a factory reset? Are you running KE7?

Maybe not. It would seem there are some SGS2's around with wifi issues that mean they are faulty, unfortunately.

Is there a cheaper alternative to root explorer?

I'm also a tight wad.

I use "Super Manager", the free version doesn't allow you to open files from within it - so you can't edit text files for example. But copying, renaming etc are there. It also allow root access to /data and /system.

As you can't edit files I've just edited files on my pc, Kies Air them to media directory and copied files to the important folders.

Advice please!
Ok if you turn data packet off you cannot receive MMS (picture messages).
I would turn the packet data on or off depending if i wanted to use my mobile internet or my wi-fi.
It would seem if you turn your mobile internet off you cannot receive ANY MMS messages surly that cant be right?
You should have the choice between choosing to enable internet connection by wi-fi or mobile internet without it effecting you receiving MMS messages.
This also means that if your out and about anything that needs an internet connection will have one without you been able to stop it.

As far as I'm aware MMS cannot be sent over WiFi.

So if you're switching mobile data off you will not recieve MMS's

Maybe im not been clear enough wi-fi and mobile connection both give you internet connection right?
Well there are times when i do not wish to be connected to the internet by doing this by turning off data packet then you will not receive any MMS messages, forget about wi-fi if you will.

I managed to kill my battery in 4 hours, I'm hoping after a few charges and discharges this will improve. Am I right?

I had a similar issue where the battery was draining extremely quickly even without me doing anything on it. I ended up factory resetting the phone when it was almost out of juice, and now it seems to be doing a better job. I might make an attempt to upgrade to KE7 though, for some reason Kies doesn't think I have any upgrades.

is anyone else having problems connecting phone to computer? I went through a game last night! kies wont detect phone or if it does it wont connect. Managed to access the memory through windows devices in the end but still took a lot of hassle..

Ahhhh, sorry I misunderstood you. You want to disable mobile data but leave MMS working.

I'm not sure it's possible. Not with anything I've seen or read about anyway. Sorry I can't help further.

Has anyone bothered with overclocking tools like SetCPU yet? From what I can see when I go in the app, the GII has its own version of SPeedI bought it and set it so that the phone scales between 500mhz when nothing is going on, to 1200mhz when needed and I think this might well help with the battery consumption, especially at idle. I won't overclock though... there's really point with this device imo, and it's rare I say things like that.

EDIT - Hmm, don't fiddle with he CPU too much... I think I set it too low when the screen is off and it's now staynig black... not good. WIll pull battery and revert that methinks. :S

Don't be such a tightwad and buy it, it will be useful for a long time. :p

I've got setCPU and and I thought that setting lower frequencies would be better for battery life? The sliders let me choose between 200 and 1200 Mhz (200>500>800>1000>1200) I have my min set at 200 and max to 500 during casual use like txting and browsing internet. tbh not sure if it has made a difference to battery life.

You can easily, here is 3 different modified battery indicators that show percentage.

Hey you guys that are rooting and removing stock apps etc, how are you backing them up before removing them? I'm guessing once removed things like the social hub are gone forever?

Also, secondly, I see on the XDA forum that there's 2 different types of firmware, generic and stock, what's the difference?
