****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Hey guys.just about to root.few quick questions.
I'm on ke7, of I root it go back to this firmware after the root?
Also wondering, once rooted, how do I get rid of samsung hub?

Flash insecure kernal>root>flash ke7 kernal back again.

Use a program like Titanium Backup to remove them.

Sorry Richdog for replying late. But I have the Go Launcher EX app and just used photoshop to make some png images for the text based on the ones Khaan has used. I then took screenshots on the phone of the coloured icons for the apps I wanted then in photoshop I cropped them and then made them greyscale.

If there are specific icons you want to make grayscale and you don't have photoshop let me know as I can make them grayscale for you.

Also i am having a problem with over righting the framework-res.apk file to change my battery icon as in root explorer it says the file is read only and on android commander it says i need to have root access and I know I have rooted the phone as titanium backup works?? Really stumped why I can over right this file!!

EDIT: Ignore me lol, user error in using Root explorer lol. I am now very happy in that I have a blue battery icon and the power widget in the notification bar is now blue too :D

Ive sorted the icon stuff now thanks chickamoo! I really want to do the framework battery mod as well to replace the stock one with the circle one... is it realls simply as copying and pasting the file over? WHich one did you use form the XDA thread?

I was under the impression that when I flash the unsecure kernel to root I can the install the KE7 kernel back again and I'd still have root but the yellow triangle would be gone? This doesn't happen to me and once I reinstall the KE7 kernel the root access is gone?

Also, I hear there is a way to remove the custom rom count from the download screen? How do I do this?

Anyone know whats a good network to transfer too? I'm currently on Three but I've seen some good offers from Phones4U for a Samsung Galaxy S II:

Orange - £70 + £25 a month - 300 mins / 3000 texts / 500MB internet - £370
T Mobile - £70 + £25 a month - 600 mins / 500 texts / 500MB internet - £370
T Mobile - £100 + £25 a month - 900 mins / 500 texts / 500MB internet - £400
Vodafone - £40 + £25 a month - 100 mins / 500 texts - 500MB internet - £340
Vodafone - £30 a month - 300 mins / 300 texts - 500MB internet - £360
Vodafone - £32.50 a month - 500 mins / 300 texts - 500MB internet - £390

Plus phone insurance which is £7 a month extra or £84 a year.

The T mobile £100 + £25 a month seems like a good deal for what you get. Although it is the most expensive option for 12 months use. The other option is to buy it on Three for £500 cash, then spend about £10 a month on top ups which would be £620 for 12 months but £750 for 2 years compared to £968 on contact.

Any opinions? :p

Well one thing that I am a little disappointed in is that in the standard browser the text won't reflow when you pinch to zoom. Found this a really nice feature and hope that one of the roms puts this right.

As others have said you can enable text reflow in options which works by double tapping text. Works great imo.

I am probably going to buy Launcher Pro Plus, WidgetLocker and Beautiful Widgets today. Will one of these let me show battery percentage instead of the default battery icon that just shows a picture?

Create a Samsung Dive account too so you can ring/track/wipe and lock the phone in the case of it going missing. Completely free and works great :D

I really dont see any need for Launcher Pro Plus when Go Launcher is just as fast, probably more stable, has all the features of LPP for free. :p

As for the battery icon... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/circular-battery-status-for-android/

Also consider buying a good icon pack like Custom Launcher Icons.

This is how i've now got my screen looking...

I will try the launcher you suggested, seeing as it is free. I just really want 5 icons at the bottom. With regard to the battery icon, I wanted the default icon (the green one in top right) to show a number on it, like I have seen in some screen shots. Is that possible, rather than adding a second icon (like the circular one you linked to).

Edit: Is this the icon pack you mean https://market.android.com/details?id=com.droidicon.launcherproicons&feature=search_result will it work with Go Launcher as the page says it is for ADW and LPP launchers.
Edit2: Actually it says it works with Go Launcher EX too!

Ok I give up, this things is getting traded in for an iPhone 4. There is something seriously wrong with Wifi on it (see the thread on XDA Devs) I have a new WNDR3700 Dual Band router, I don't get full strength on 5Ghz sat in the same room as the router, on 2.4Ghz the signal has lost 10 of Mbps when I'm 10 feet from the router with a plaster board wall between me and it...other than the wifi I quite like it I'm just a bit annoyed at the moment with the poor wifi performance (worse than the £99 San Francisco...)

I know what you mean, i was having this exact same issue, using Speedtest app i could not get over 1800kbps stood a foot away from the router. I did mess around with the settings a lot on the router last night and finally managed to get 8000kbps. The last setting i changed was the encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) from WPA/WPA2-PSK (Mixed Mode). Now this is probably just a red herring as when i turned encryption off completely it only scored 1800kbps max.

The signal strength is not as good as my iphone4, but so long as it keeps working at around 8000kbps download speeds, im more than happy with it. I am not missing the iphone4 one bit so far, loving the phone.

Yes it will work with GO, im using them both myself. As for the battery mod, not possible without changing the framework settings, there's a thread on XDA with the details.
