****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

You can reroute avoiding traffic, if the bottom left icon is orange/red then just tap it and you can reroute :)

It's a manual process but at least you get a visual icon to let you know there is traffic! (And of course a yellow/red overline on the map itself if traffic layer is enabled).

Used the Navigation app properly for the first time yesterday and wondered what the yellow icon was. I thought it was a speed limit warning.

A good tip for quickly adding destinations, from the Google search results on the desktop browser select the 'Places' page and then click the STAR.

In the Navigation app when choosing a destination go to 'Starred Places'. Saves adding anywhere you're likely to visit to your contacts.

Provider/Carrier info:
This is something I'd like, not on the status bar (what I call the bit at the top :p) but just on the lock screen would be nice to see, but for your purposes you can see the carrier if you pull down the notifications bar, it'll say either just 'Orange' or 'Orange T-Mobile' if you're sharing the masts. I've found it only switches over as a last resort though, so low signal Orange is used in preference to better signal T-Mobile, until the Orange signal dies completely if that makes sense?

Lockscreen:
Widgetlocker - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker&feature=search_result
very customisable and should be able to do whatever you want, for just background change however you can go to Settings -> Display -> Screen Display and there are settings for both homescreen and lockscreen wallpapers there :)

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll download Widgetlocker shortly. :)

What you've said about the Orange/T-Mobile thing makes sense, I'm just a bit annoyed that in the real world the network switching makes hardly any difference. I was sat here most of the night with 0 bars, I didn't try dragging the notification bar down though so I'll do that in a sec just to see. I'm guessing that when you said it's sharing the masts does that mean that it's connected to T-Mobile at that moment, or that it's simply set up so that it CAN connect to T-Mobile if needed? Sorry if that's a stupid question. :p

Other than the signal issue I'm loving the handset, amazing screen and I was browsing websites yesterday, WITH FLASH! :o :D :D

hi, got my SGS2 yesterday, i'ts quite nice :)

Not got round to personalising it yet nor have i installed KE7.

One thing though so far: i receive a good number of text images and it looked pretty good on my old 3GS... however, the images in SMS on this android handset is seriously poor...

is there a setting i'm missing or is this something i'm going to have to live with?? (any help appreciated, thanks)

Well I got mine last week and I love it.

I have couple of questions.

As my phone is branded will I have to wait for the KE7 update? if not how do I install it ? (currently on BOKE3 on T mobile)

If I do have to wait for a t mobile update has anyone de-branded there phone on here? I've seen instructions on how to do with a O2 branded phone and would like to know if the instructions apply to my T mobile branded phone before making an attempt.

thanks guys and gals

Do you mean MMS? Handcent is a good message replacement app - i'm not sure if it will improve the quality of images though...not heard of that probelm before

yeh sorry, MMS.. where you send/receive images via text.

thanks for that, i'll look into it and see if it improves things. Can't help but think something somewhere along the 'sending route' the image has been badly compressed :(

im sorry but i don't know how anyone can mock me for saying 'if you don't need to use an electrical device then turn it off' - guess people like kitch9 still live at home with mummy and daddy :)

If the cost of leaving a mobile phone on at night is enough to worry you financially then I'd suggest you should probably move back home with mummy and daddy. ;)

Yeah, could be a bit clearer:

If the notifications bit says 'Orange' then you're purely on the Orange network, however if it says 'Orange T-Mobile' then you're on the T-Mobile network through the new sharing bit, if that makes sense?

I would've thought at that level of signal it would switch, you can force it to switch I believe by going Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators (wait for it to search and then click Orange T-Mobile if it appears)

Jesus this phone is SLOOWWW to charge... after an hour it's only gone up 47%, and that's with a different charger to the one that came in the box.

Also, I did 2 hours or browsing on Wifi this morning and my battery seemed to drain by around 45%... is it just me or is that a bit much?

That doesn't seem slow? My Desire charged from sub 10% to 100% in about 2.5hours so this seems inline given it's a bigger battery too.

Have a search in this thread for my username and you'll find the links you need. You can use the O2 method of debranding but make sure you download the firmware & kernel for your phone so you can undo the debranding. If you have any problems just email my trust and I can help you.

So gutted, my Mrs is looking to change from her O2 pay as you go, to a t-mobile contract and getting a SGSII.

I've got to wait another year before I can get a new handset :(

from 0 -100% it takes about 3.5 hours to charge - I leave it over night on a plug timer.

Using a higher rated charger makes no difference as the software is limiting the amps drawn.

I found the SGS2 will last about 4hours of 3g/hspa with screen on. Its seems that combination is the biggest battery consumer of them all.

Hmm, Android OS is now using 40% too, up from 28% the other day. Wonder whats causing it.
