There is an incredibly horrible custom UI on XDA that lots of people like, I really can't believe it.
 
ok so im looking to root my phone. this is a really long thread to read. can someone point me in the direction of a guide to root the phone and load a rom.

Hey guys, I just plugged the phone in to charge for it's first time. A battery icon came onscreen and some dots animation. After a few seconds that display disappeared and the screen is now blank. Is that normal, I mean, I assume it's still charging, because now there's no indication.

Just start from the top and don't rush and you should be fine.

Tap the button at the bottom of the screen to get the screen on. It's fine :)

Ah excellent! Didn't press that button before, but yeah, the battery icon showed up again, thank you sir! :) I started charging about 3.15pm, so, about 1.15am should be done? Will it flash up any signal to say it's fully charged?

Urrr i hope it doesn't take that long to charge!!! Should be done by around 6.30pm. And it will probably beep at you when its done.

I'm not sure. When I got mine I left mine to charge overnight and then grabbed it before I set off into work. Give it a few hours and check the indicator every now and again to see if it is done :)
 
Ok thanks guys. Salesgirl probably didn't know what she was talking about then, as she told me it's about 10 hours to charge.
