****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

You guys are going to hate me :D

Free phone
Orange Panther £35 24 months

40% retailer discount, makes that £21 x24 months = £504
3 months line rental redemption from Mobiles = £105

£504 - £105 = £399

Less £40 from TopCashBack, £369 for the phone and contract, LOL!

This is not quite as good

http://www.store-orange.co.uk/orange-samsung-galaxy-s-2.html?ref=phonefinder

It says the phone is free but then when you select "buy now" there is a charge of £99 for the phone..............bit misleading really

Just looked, it says "100%" next to the battery icon. Done. :)
Shall I download this thing called 'Kies' so it can take my outlook contacts and calendar apointments from Outlook 2007 and put them on the phone?

For anyone who needs help with rooting their device I followed this guys video tutorial and it helped me out a lot.

Make sure to watch all his tutorials about rooting before attempting to do your own.

Don't bother, install google calender sync and go contact sync instead. These programs will sync your outlook contacts and calender with your Gmail account, which in turn automatically update your phone. Anything you input on your phone will in turn automatically be put on outlook too, no need to connect your phone to your pc at all.

For some reason my Galaxy won't work with my Netgear router, it's connected to the network but there is no internet connection, can anyone help me please?

It was working yesterday so I have no idea why it's not now!

Alright thanks. I've downloaded google calendar sync, and will now get hold of go contact sync. Not sure if I have a gmail account (certainly never used it if I do) but I do have a google account associated with youtube.

Wow, this phone is amazing. Stunning screen, beautiful displays and colours and those wireless contact and calendar sync apps seem to have worked well. Only just started playing with it, a lot to discover.:)

Use the same account you have on your phone as the master account.

Well it seems I didn't have a gmail account. It kept saying username or password wasn't correct when I used my google account username and password on the phone, but worked once I created a gmail account. So I've synced everything, but now when I press sync on GO Contact Sync it gives me this error.

I get that every now and then, just exit and restart the app. I don't have it running all the time anyway, just when it is needed. I just leave calender sync running all the time.

It is an amazing phone and your right the screen is stunning. I just wonder if Samsung will own up to whats going on with the yellowish tint on the left hand side of the screen

Network counter says under permissions "prevent phone from sleeping" - Surely thats going to kill my battery?

3g Watchdog on the other hand.. Seems to monitor 3g usage but not wireless?

(Havent downloaded either yet, just going off the info boxes / pictures.)

I think that is so it can turn on data connections to sync. It doesn't prevent it going to sleep as such, but wakes it up at a fixed interval to check if anything needs syncing. I've had it on my phone for a week and there has been no impact on battery from what I can tell.

Need alittle advice. I'm travelling to the USA for 6 weeks on Tuesday but after calling O2 they told me data is charged at something silly like £1 pmb. So I want to be able to still receive calls and when wifi is enabled to collect emails and get any app updates or syncing but othwrrwise not have any normal data connection.

My question is will just turning off data when holding the power key do this totally or are there more options that need tweaking?

Cheers.
