****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

My question is will just turning off data when holding the power key do this totally or are there more options that need tweaking?

Cheers.

that should do it - I can't see any other way of preventing data use :)

use 3g watchdog to monitor too - traffic counter seems unreliable

EVERY S2 has the screen issue, there are tons of threads if you search, however its barely noticeable.. well not enough to make me want to send it back :D

As for Network counter Ill have to give it a try as my app is useless :/

I get that every now and then, just exit and restart the app. I don't have it running all the time anyway, just when it is needed. I just leave calender sync running all the time.

You're right, that works. Another thing now. All my contacts in outlook have been automatically synced and sent to the phone, and new contacts I create in outlook also get sent to the phone. But when I create a new contact on the phone it's not being sent to outlook, even when I tick the box ' Google to Outlook only'.

Ah! Sorted. I was looking in the wrong place. I didn't realise that my contacts were all on display online in my gmail/contacts page. I was looking for sync updates in my contacts in outlook 2007.

Need alittle advice. I'm travelling to the USA for 6 weeks on Tuesday but after calling O2 they told me data is charged at something silly like £1 pmb. So I want to be able to still receive calls and when wifi is enabled to collect emails and get any app updates or syncing but othwrrwise not have any normal data connection.

You must also turn off "Packet Data" if you have this turned off your phone wont use any mobile data. You wont be able to recieve any picture messages as well, this also is counted as data usage. But using the power key option alone will not stop your phone upping your data usage so make sure you turn off the packet.

I think you can still get picture messages through with "packet data" switched off?

I have it off just to make sure it dont connect to the net by accident, though I'd still like to get pics :D

Damn that was one long thread. Why do I always read them page by page by page....

Saying that you didnt need to read all 166 pages... Just the first bit on page 1 :p

The Lite'ning Rom v1.0 will not wipe your apps and data and it's not necessary to root your SGS II before you can flash the Lite'ning Rom.
After flashing the Lite'ning Rom your SGS II will be rooted.

SamFirmware@ Yes, we are busy with Android 2.3.4 for Galaxy S II. No comment till testers are ready to publish!

Is yours 1/2 price for life of as long as he's an employee?

Blimey, sorry matey, you wrote this 10 days ago and I only just saw it. Yes, for life. There was a time when he told me it would be for as long as he's an employee, but now he tells me it's for life. He also now tells me that T-Mobile might be stopping that perk altogether, but it won't affect me, as long as I keep payments regular on direct debit of course.

Question. I need to have my most immediate daily calendar appointments showing on my home screen. At the moment my home screen shows the time in massive digits at the top, the weather underneath, a google search box, and 8 icons. So if I was going to the dentist at 4pm and had to buy some milk at 5pm, is there a way I can get it display those automatically on the home screen and an alarm to go off at 3.45pm and 4.45pm? Then when it gets past 5pm, it would then automatically display my next appointments of that day if there are any, or the next day. My windows phone did that and I'd be lost without being able to see my immediate appointments at a glance.

Check your phone is defaulted to save new contacts to your Gmail account rather than just to the phone. If that is the case I'd save a new contact then log into Gmail on your PC to check if the contact has been saved there, then try running the Outlook sync again.

getting my sgs2 tomorrow and really like the look of the lite'ning ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274) does the phone require rooting before flashing this rom via odin or does it reroot it itself while flashing?

this is on a Orange SGS2 dunno if its gonna be unbranded or branded as its from buymobilephones.com

so does anyone have any idea?

thanks

Mark

That it was written clearly in the first post of the actual thread you linked proves that no-one can be arsed to read things properly before posting.

Hmm when using juice defender I cant get calls phone goes straight to voicemail when it is in standby so thats uninstalled. And now it works perfectly that was on balanced settings aswell. Anyone else had this??

Can anyone confirm if they can delete mails from an IMAP account using the default mail app?

When I delete mails, they disappear from the phone but they re-appear next time the phone syncs. If I use Pure Messenger they get deleted from the server as well, but not with the default mail app. Works fine on my Desire, so it looks like its an issue with the default mail app.

I am loving the media capabilities on the Galaxy S II. I can just drag and drop video files and they all play. No problems with anything so far.

People talk about being able to re-encode for the iPhone but why should you need to? I have been playing every type of coded without issue.

That is all.
