Maybe because they announce them at different stages in the lifecycle...?
i know, but it's daft IMO, if people could actually buy it whilst the hype was still there i imagine they'd see more sales!

bargain ¬_¬
The only problem now is that is samsung who don't care about their customers and leave you with out dated software. I might wait for something HTC flavoured.
I bought into the hype of the Galaxy S but sold it a couple of months after buying it and can't really see the point in this new version?
Everyone at the time was going on about how the Galaxy S was faster and had a GPU for gaming built into it. I bought one then realised that yes I had a phone with a faster benchmark score than others and a GPU but there's simply no need for that much power on Android as there isn't a large selection of apps or games in the app store that need it!
The second major factor is just how poor Samsungs support for firmware upgrades is - Kies - shudder. It takes months for updates to roll through and with new versions of Android surely on the horizon it's best to wait or go HTC as they seem to update their phones a lot faster? Had GPS issues with the Galaxy S from day one and Samsung kept rumours going for ages that they would fix it in a patch but by the time I came to sell it they hadn't. I felt very let down by how Samsung updated their flagship model and it has put me off the brand completely.
I preferred the build quality, stability and support of the HTC Desire in the end. Yes the Samsung was more powerful and scored better in benchmarks, but I still fail to see the point in such as powerful phone if no software requires it? Surely Android needs more apps and proper games other than angry birds to ultimately justify the power? The SAMOLED screens are great, but apart from that I don't get it.
Also, if the S2 has a big uptake it will be rooted within a few months.

It's basically allowing custom firmware to be flashed, so you can essentially get new versions of android, with none of the samsung "bloatware" very shortly after the release of the operating system itself, not having to wait for Samsung to create it
I wonder if HTC just wanted to see what the compertition was about before finaly tweaking their beast of a phone Just a thought really.
LOL @ expansis for the 16GB model:

So just for arguments sake. Say the Galaxy S2 ships with Android 2.3 with Touchwiz.
Does this mean you could basically just install the stock version of Android 2.3 on the GS2? So It would essentially look like a Nexus-S?
But wont this remove certain features like HD video recording?
