Such a shame about the lack of HDMI output though, I looked forward to putting a movie on the phone, going round a mate's house and watching said HD movie on a HDTV...

You have mates without a HTPC or a TV that can play from a storage device?
I expect they will release a HDMI cable for this phone anyway, they did for the old Galaxy S.

Everyone else just watches bought/rented blurays on their HDTV or whatever. Not everyone is as up to speed with connectivity like most of us here are
Also, what TVs can play an MKV straight off a storage device? I don't know of any that do it out the box without having to go through some kind of media player box first! - In that situation a phone like the Optimus 2x with HDMI mirroring coupled with Vplayer/Rockplayer would come in quite handy!
At the moment it's a case of taking an ION netbook with you for connectivity for movies and stuff

My Samsung LE46C650 plays MKVs straight from an external harddisk.

My TV plays only SD content from a USB drive. Also I'd imagine lack of HTPC is more common than not?
I'm just surprised that DLNA has made it onto these phones before HDMI-out

It was quoted at 549.95 price has been removed as Mobilefun made a slip up by posting it early not happy with the showing from HTC. If HTC dont put out what I know they have i'll jump on the new Samsung S2. check here click here
