****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Trust me you don't want to flash a bloat filled ROM onto your lovely unbranded phone :)

But if you want a completely stock Samsung experience/unbranded

Grab one of these from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

I'm not sure what I9100BULPC is like from there but it says Vodafone UK, But I'd choose one of the unbranded ones. I should add even though they say they are for a different region they will work fine :)

Ok I will check that out. Thanks for the help.

NELP2 Modem, Hydrogenics 8/4 Siyah Kernel on Three UK

Had 3 bars of reception when I did this one.

I've been looking for some time and I can't find the ROM I want, I was wondering if anyone here knew if there was a ROM that:

Is based on Samsung ICS
Doesn't use TouchWiz
Has the ICS keyboard and core apps, launcher, but retains the Samsung camera, FM Radio.
Isn't rooted, or root can be properly removed using a stock kernel

I've been running CM9 for some time and it's great, but I need something with more working stuff and only the good Samsung bits, as well as the option to actually disable root (CM9 has a disable root option but it keeps su and superuser on the phone and just seems to automatically deny apps).

Failing this, I'd love to be able to make that ROM, but I don't know where to begin. I assume it's more complex than adding/removing files!

I'm also on 3 UK and just did a speedtest on CM9 using the LPQ modem, and I could only get 1.7 mbps. I'd like to change to the NELP2 as well I think.

I've moved onto Hydrogenics and I must say it's very nice :)

I was on Litening but as I was using Apex launcher anyway I thought I might as well cut out Samsung altogether and I'm not regretting it.

Score another for Hydrogenics here. Apart from keyboard issues where the input sometimes won't show up when I'm texting people (this was fixed when I got the Swype keyboard off their website) it has been flawless, fast and energy efficient.

Haven't yet flashed an ICS ROM (been waiting for CheckROM v7 but getting bored of waiting now).

Pros and cons comparing Hydrogenics vs CheckROM (apart from the kitchen functionality?)

Cheers!

For me:

+ICS Browser
+ICS apps (messaging, calendar, gmail, etc)
+ICS launcher compatibility (Apex/Nova)
+ICS Recent apps (or WP7)
+ICS Lock screen
+Increased Battery Life
+ROM control customization (It's similar to JKay but built into the ROM, although JKay could do a bit more)

-JKay support
-Ease of installing custom themes/mods with KitchenPro

That's all I can think of at the moment, I think there are a few more +'s :p

Hmm sounds good! tbh i'm not too fussed about the lack of kitchen and the ease of theming, i don't tend to change ROMs and fiddle too much :D

You won't get away from Touchwiz if you want a Samsung ROM it isn't just the launcher Touchwiz is a whole lot more, But you can change the launcher no problems & it is safe to delete the touchwiz launcher too. You can install the ICS keyboard if you search back in this thread I'm pretty sure mrk linked it here as a flashable cwm zip.

I'd suggest neat rom if you want all the bloat taken out but want a stock Samsung ROM, Lightning ROM or Sensation ROM if you want some customisation. The latter I'm running & I'm very happy with it.

Can someone give me some guidance to update to Hydrogenics.

I'm currently running GB 2.3.6 rooted with a siyah 2.6.12 kernel.

From reading around I take it I have to flash a ICS rom before flashing the Hydrogenics rom?

Is there a specifc ICS rom to flash first?
