****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Not too sure what exactly that means.....

If it is installed, then surely you must be able to access the app in the menu or somewhere?

EDIT:

Download just the .apk of the app from somewhere and install it using estrongs file explorer. Make sure you have allowed "unknown sources" for installation of non-market apps in the settings of your phone.

Well, I've got all the 'My Backup' backup files on my PC and can transfer them to my phone, but it needs the 'My Backup' app on the phone to sort those backup files out and get my phone the way it was. But on android market, it says 'Your device already has this item installed', but it's not. I can't find it anywhere on the phone. I've cleared data on the phone for the market app, but that hasn't sorted it. When the phone booted after the reset, it asked me to sign into gmail which I did and it's put my contacts and calendar events back on the phone, just like you said, so that's good. But for some reason, google play thinks my phone has 'My Backup' installed, but it was presumably erased during the reset. I can still buy and install the paid version 'My Backup Pro' and that would work, but I'm supposed to have a 30 day free trial on 'My Backup'.

Yeah, see my edit in that post but the second part of my post won't help it appears :p

Just having a look at the info. on the app and noticed this here:

NOTE: Trial will work on one device. Backup can be restored to the same device, to go across another device (data migration), you will need MyBackup Pro.

It could be due to the factory reset that "my backup" maybe recognises it as a "new device" although I don't think that should be the case.....

Could buy it and see if it does work properly and if it doesn't work, email the dev. and see if he can help you.

I can't help much more if the purchase or my 3rd point in last post doesn't work as I haven't used my backup for a long time.

Not sure if it thinks that it is a different device as the phone has been reset or something like that..........

Could try buying it and if that doesn't work email the dev. and see if he can help you.

Well, it seems to be sorting itself out now, but I'm a little confused what happened here, let me explain. :p I rebooted the phone just now, and then google play changed from 'installed' to 'install'. But, underneath that it says
'you don't have any devices', even when I'm connected by USB. If I click on install, a message says “You haven’t accessed the Google Play Store app on your device with this email account." and these possible reasons: https://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1141080

I'm signed in with my gmail account though. I don't have a google play store app on my phone, just the market app and a google app.

So anyway, the phone was asking me if I wanted to use tw launcher or launcher pro, so I selected launcher pro, my wallpaper returns and my desired dock settings. So I suppose google must have backed up more than I realised prior to the reset. And now, all my apps are there including 'My Backup'.*facepalm* But the phone isn't completely restored, there's a bit of a mix of what I had before reset, and also the default samsung stuff. So now I suppose I should use 'My Backup' to restore it completely.

Indeed, certainly strange! :p

And yeah I just remembered that google backups apps etc. as well :o (it doesn't actually backup the apks, it just remembers what you had installed and starts to reinstall everything from the market etc.

I have it turned off and is always one of the first things I do :p

I personally never back any apps or settings up (apart from oi safe passwords, apex homescreen settings etc.), when I start fresh, I start completely fresh! Guaranteed there will be no problems at all then! Only way to be sure! :p

That really is the best way to do it I suppose, yeah. :)

I'm also still on Sensation (3.2 though) but I'm not sure about the battery. With moderate usage I barely manage to finish the day without a charge. It might be just a rogue app so I need to look into that. Apart from that, the touch screen is also a bit unresponsive at times.
The problem is, I am hooked on Sensation now as it is the only ROM with a decent look out of the box and I am not a big fan of the stock ICS look to be honest (and most themes available are just ugly -- I really feel Android still has a long way to go in the looks department). I might just wait it out and flash the coming new version of Sensation, which I think should be there soon.

i've noticed the screen responsiveness too.. im on 3.4 and sometimes it just seems to miss tracking of my finger.. when unlocking for e.g.

Hi all,
I still use firmware 2.3.3, wasn't following news on a phone, however now looking forward to update to 4.0.

What is best way to update to 4.0? or just simply use keys software?

Thank you.

Hello all! Long time no post haha.

Well I have to say after just over a week on MIUI, I got quite bored of it, whilst it was nice and responsive and had some good battery saving, there were a few things that I didn't like about it. One of which was the menu layouts and the fact that it had a whole theme system which didn't really seem to work any more. Another was that I had problems with it connecting to the BT Audio in my car. Eitherway, long story short I've gone back to Hydrogen-ICS. And I've got to say, Wow...

One of the reasons I left was that it just felt so 'laggy' surfing webpages and even just the menus could have been a whole lot smoother and now that I've come back to it at a later version it seems that it's a lot smoother and a damn sight more responsive, I'm just running it at stock on the 05.05 version, I'll possibly play with a few Kernels and undervolt it when I've seen what battery is like.

ok, Tried Installing NEW FIRMWARE VIA KIES!

1) backed up all my files
2) Pressed firmware update. Process started, everything was ok until ANDROID PICTURE APPEARED AND IT SAID: DOWNLOADING ... DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET.
I watched couple videos and it meant to be a downloading bar, however 2 hours left, nothing happened, it froze.
3) I switched off kies via task manager and switched off GS2 and removed battery, when switched on it seems working ok, obviously firmware stayed same (2.3.3).

Any advices on this issue? :-(
