****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I've uninstalled launcher pro because it was freezing up the phone whenever I scrolled right on the homescreen. Never used to do this on gingerbread. So I reinstalled launcher pro and it shows in settings/applications but nowhere else. How do I access it to change from TW launcher?

edit: scratch that, sorted. I had to clear 'launch by default' on TW Launcher in manage applications. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see that option.

Give apex a try ;)

Or go launcher if you want more features, good widgets and folders in the app drawer.

Yeah. I think I'm going to have to. I don't know what's going on, but I keep getting 'launcher pro has stopped working'. Never had this problem with gingerbread, and with hindsight, I would have stayed with gingerbread now, ICS is giving me so many headaches.

Btw, in google satnav, when I'm in landscape mode and type destination, there's a 'go' button on the right to begin the search, but in portrait mode, there's no go button, and there's no way to get it look for what I just typed. Sometimes I'll type an address and it starts listing addresses below, but mostly it doesn't. I don't know what's going on with it. It's also white like it was on gingerbread, but before I reset the phone, it had a new black interface after ICS was first installed.

I still wonder, what is the advantage of installing firmware over KIES ? Surely more to go wrong, I've updated my firmware about 6 or 7 times now and not once via KIES but always via the phone itself over wifi...

I'm on 4.0.3 since a couple of days, don't like it so far, all my home screens were reset, my autocorrect own words have disappeared, and the keyboard ( number locations) have changed from being in a box shape to all on top. Don't like the new gmail app, the new browser messes up zooming for websites with frames, and the UI improvements are generally ''meh''.
Don't see the point, 2.3.5 (or even .6 I was on, can't recall) was fine.

What advantages does this offer at all ? Except perhaps the face recognition ?

The reason it doesn't work well with your phone is cause the app isn't optimized for ICS as the developer has abandoned the app, LP hasn't received an update for more than a year now.

There really is very little reason to use launcher pro anyway as you have far better launchers out there like go, apex, nova etc.

As for google nav, I just checked there and it is the same as yours. Not sure why there is no "go" button in portrait mode, probably to save space, however, there is a go button on the keyboard or the "enter" button should "go/search" as well.

The UI is black in portrait mode, but if you go into landscape mode when entering text it is white, this is because of it just being a proper text box if you know what I mean :p Not sure why it has changed for you though

 You don't like the new gmail app!!!???????

Have you tried a different browser? quick ics browser or ics browser + are the best IMO.

The main thing brought by ICS is HW acceleration but you guys have had that ever since the release of the GS 2 though so :p

Other improvements are faster browsing, less battery drain when the mobile is on stand by, stereo recording amongst other stuff.

I've downloaded go launcher and it seems pretty nice.

Well, there's no black UI on mine anymore, and there's no go button on my keyboard with swype. If I switch to a different keyboard, I see the go button but it just closes everything and goes to the desktop.
If I close the satnav and open up maps and type, it brings a list of places up that I can click on. Then when I go back to the satnav, it does it there too, even in portrait mode, which is presumably why there's no go button,. So it seems I have to open maps. If I reboot the phone, I have to do that again.

I have a headache. :p

Well I'm pretty much over the worst of the hassles I've had of getting my phone the way I want it in ICS. Thanks for the launcher recommendations Nexus18. I'm not keen on the screenshots I saw of apex. I really do like go launcher, it has a similar dock style to launcher pro which suits me and far more things I can do with it. I didn't realise launcher pro was outdated and not really supported anymore. I'm not getting any freeze ups now.

Is there a way I can change the skin of the default browser? It's very grey and dull looking, but I want to stick with it as I prefer opening the browser from the default launcher dock icon at the bottom right of the screen.

I'll still use opera now and then when I want to use the search box for the forums. Using the default browser (and also the ICS browser I just tried), both of them close the search box before I can type anything.

Or is there a way I can associate any browser to open with the dock internet icon?, ie :

You can customize any of the launchers to your liking.

Hold down on the dock shortcuts/icons and you can change the dock icons for the apps as well as changing the apps that launch amongst other things or for apex drag an app from the drawer to the dock.

It is also the same for apex but a wee bit more limited especially for the app drawer.

As for changing the colour scheme/icons/themes there is loads of choice on the market.

You can't change the skin of the default browser afaik.

Ah that's a pity. Yeah I'd messed around holding down the dock icons and there's some neat things that can be done, but I've not found out how to get opera to open using the default icon, and I want to keep that icon as it matches the rest of the dock, just simple white minimalist icons. It's not a problem though, I can live with it.

Remove that browser icon/app/shortcut first by holding down on it and hitting "remove/delete" and then click the "+" button to add opera.

You are able to change the icon to the go browser default as well, hold down on it and when you hit "change" or "edit" or something like that, it should give you options and one of them being icons and when you choose that there should be an option to use whatever icon you want in your gallery or the default opera icon as well as the default go browser icon for the browser.

Cheers, will try all that. :)

No problem :)

:p :D

Lol :D

Actually, Boat Browser was mentioned in this thread. Just downloaded it and it's great. I'm gonna delete opera, and associate boat with my icon. Boat is much better.

Ah, skip that, boat also doesn't let me use the search box. So far opera is the only browser that lets me. Weird.

Yeah boat is nice, personally not keen on the UI and find quick ICS browser faster plus I love the quick controls! :D

Regarding the search box, do you just mean the google search box widget on the homescreen? If yes, then you need to go into the settings of that app (touch the 3 dot button on the top right, this will be visible once you click on the text area of the search box) and add the apps/browser to the list that you do want to "search" through as well:

Ah, no, I mean the search boxes here:

I can open either of those boxes, then the keyboard pops up momentarily, then it disappears and the search box closes. That happens with the default browser, ICS browser, Boat, but not with opera.

Seems to be specific to these forums too as I can use search boxes on other forums.
