****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

No change it in settings (1st screen), not the properties box for the folder!

Kernel, flash the same version (or closest based on Android version) you had on your phone, kernel version is displayed in the About phone screen btw.

so tick Mount File system yes? :D....then delete SystemUI.odex

EDIT - Cheers mrk - did it this way and finally deleted SystemUI.odex. Do you know why I had to delete that file?

That is correct!

Untick it after otherwise the FS will be mounted as writable every time, which you don't want!

Hmm I don't remember which PHONE/CSC etc relates to kernel version as it;s been a year since I rooted my phone and since then it's not been needed to bother knowing that info as Odin + correct version via About > Kernel version works just fine!

Unless you mean which custom kernel? I'm using Shun Andromeda 0.10 which is based on Siyah with some bits from NEAK and other tweaks for improved battery life.

Odexed info explained in detail here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/145961-odexed-vs-deodexed.html

Because he's deodexed the systemUI apk and that makes the system UI odex file redundant.

cheers.

Nice one chuck ;)

All going to plan so far :).

So if I wanted to install a battery status bar mod like circle battery (the one linked further down in the Domination theme thread, do I just download the zip, copy to SD, Then flash in CWM like I did with the theme? And that would overwrite the current battery icon?

The icon I want to try:

I keep getting more and more problems since 4.0.3.

Spotify often freezes while playing and you have to reselect what you were playing.
Spotify crashes in online mode.
Browser saying there is no connection or ''page is unavailable'' on the mobile network.
Facebook constantly needs to reconnect.
Doesn't keep its H+ connection but drops back to 3g after 3-4 seconds of inactivity. It doesn't do anything on 3G though, only on H and H+ ( that is normal though, it always did that, internet only on GPRS and HSPA+ and HSDPA, not on 3G, but it used to KEEP the H/H+ connection alive always, now it always drops to 3G after a bit of inactivity, which causes massive problems, as (I believe, I never see it do anything on 3g, it always jumps up to H or H+ when I attempt to load anything) my provider doesn't give me net over 3g, only H, H+ and Gprs)).
Browser somehow froze today for no reason.

Ps. Tried the ICS quick browser, it has the exact same fail when zooming on in websites with more frames, as the original 4.0.3 browser.

Did you do a factory reset after the install?

Could fix most, if not all of those problems.

Meh, is that the only solution ? I hate doing factory resets/clean installs on computers, mobile devices, etcetc. It often takes up a whole day to set it up after like you want it.

And I always had the 3g problem, I believe it's a provider issue.
However, that doesn't change the fact it now doesn't keep the H or H+ connection alive any more but stupidly goes to 3G after a couple of seconds of inactivity :(:(.

Oh what I also noticed, an issue I used to have in early versions of gingerbread, it doesn't always connect to my handsfree kit any more if I for example keep my car in ''acc'' mode for a while, then start it ( BT radio goes off for 2 seconds when I start the engine), it used to reconnect beautifully, now it often doesn't reconnect to my handsfree kit, about half the time.

The best, most effective way, yes :p

Generally for big updates i.e. 2.3 to 4.0 it is best to do a factory reset.

Many problems that I had on my samsung spica, not unlike yours, were always fixed after a clean start.

IIRC there is a setting somewhere or a number that you enter into the dialpad to change those settings so that you constantly have H as the preferred data connection or something like that.

Honestly, the only thing nice so far about android 4.0.3, is the fact that Wifi appears to be more stable and quicker than before. In the old days whatsapp would have a delay of 1 hr sometimes on Wifi, for example went outside, and suddently, BAM, 15 new messages...

Haven't caught it doing that any more, always seems to work instantly on wifi now. Aside from that, meh.
If I have to do a factory reset, I might as well just root it and put a custom FW on it, sick of all the Samsung **** on it :p.

My batter life with ICS Orange as trebled. I'm currently 1day 8 hrs in and battery at 52%

My mate at work upgraded and he's on vodafone and hes getting less than 8 hrs...

whats happening?

Mattey1 - I want to flash some ICS Domination MODs - I just flash them like I flashed the theme right?

Do I also:

- Wipe cache
- Wipe dalvik cache

Can I do the cache wipes when ever I want - in the same way I wipe cookies from a browser whenever I want?

I have no idea if they'll work on standard stock ROMS or if you need to use a deodexed rom. Make a nandroid back up just in case they don't work.

Then flash like you did with the theme & do cache/dalvik like usual. There really isn't any need to wipe them unless you are flashing something new :)

If they don't work you can just restore your nandroid backup :)
