****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I love the improvements that come with the JB roms, even at this early stage. The Ui is noticable smoother across the board. I love the stock camera app with its instant photo taking, it's far quicker than anything i found on GB/ICS (and i tried loads of camera apps). I have the same batter drain issues in usage as other people and I've found this on 3 or 4 different JB roms so there appears to be no real difference between them in that respect. I have however noticed that the auto adjust screen power option is missing from all of them and this could play a part in it as I had similar battery drain issues in GB/ICS when i had this switched off. Probably isnt the sole cause, but it could be a contributor.

Otherwise though, very impressed. I'm currently using paranoid android and I love the JB improvements along with para's ability to set the DPI per-app. Great combo :)

Hmm where's the best place to sell a galaxy s2 these days? Mine is now back in perfect condition after a new screen and surround and usb port, and my S3 is on its way :)

They'd be foolish not to put Jellybean on the S2, if Samsung aren't going to support their devices then I'll ensure my next phone isn't one of theirs.

As I said before, it is very hard to say what will happen given Samsung's history/customer/update support, however, given the popularity of the GS 2 and essentially that was the first android phone to truly lead them into the number one spot for android phone manufacturers it would be very very foolish of them to not give a good/stable working build of JB.

They only support their flagship device and nothing else and as soon as the new flagship is out, the previous flagship gets very little priority.

Expect either of these outcomes:

the bad - will come up with some lame excuse like the hardware doesn't support it or some feature is limiting it after testing a build out

all right outcome - update it to JB and probably be buggy much like the first few updates of 2.3 for the GS and also take forever

the good - get JB (stable and decent enough) a month or 2 after the GS 3 gets it

TBH as I said in another thread the other day, Samsung should be the first ones to get the new android versions on their phones (obviously excluding the google phones) and much much quicker than any other manufacturer as they only support like 2 or 3 android phones (in this case the GS 3, GS 2 and the note for now.....) where as SE and HTC are supporting a whole range of phones yet I think some of HTC mobiles got ICS before the GS 2........

Perhaps if they spent a little less time loading their ROMs with garbage apps nobody wants, they'd have updates out the door sooner. Then if you're unlucky, you have to wait for your network whilst they do the same!

Samsung are the new HTC when it comes to sheer number of different models available so it doesn't surprise me that they take so long to get updates out sometimes, but it's not really acceptable either. The only models anyone ever really talks about are the S-series, but if you're not looking to spend mega-money on a phone it must be a nightmare trying to figure out what each model offers.

Indeed! Thank god my phone is unbranded/unlocked! :p

True, but when you go on gsmarena and compare the amount of handsets released by Samsung [excluding the GN and NS handsets] and HTC [excluding the nexus one] (since the desire and galaxy S), Samsung have a ton more (granted they aren't all android based, but the majority of the phones should still be supported)

HTC did say before the one series launched that they would cut down on the amount of different versions/phones that they would release (looking at the desire range..........) but it looks like they haven't stuck to their word :(

They only needed the one S/V/X/XL, instead they now have multiple versions of the X/XL for USA and a whole new desire range (again.......)

Currently using the lite'ning rom, but im having problems and would like to try a different rom that flashes in the same way through ODIn. Can anyone point me in the right direction as all the other methods seem far too complicated :)

flashing in recovery is no harder than odin, in fact it's probably safer. Don't limit yourself to odin.

tbh there's loads of them but those are some of the main choices, imo.

why deleted?

kmetek This message has been deleted by ThundyCat. Reason: No. ?

Resurrection Remix is most likely the best custom rom you can get. 2.6.1 is the best version right now. v3 jelly bean is lacking in some fundamental features right now, but its on its way up

CM10 sounds really good - all these fast speeds quotes make me tempted to have a go.

When will CM10 release a really stable reliable ROM do you think? within weeks?

I'd say it is pretty damn stable now.

Still hwcomposer doesn't work properly so still some lags every now & again but on the whole it is pretty smooth.

TVout doesn't work like usual same with FM radio but you can use an app for that.

Apart from that it should be fully functional.

Thanks dude, downloaded the 2.6 Resurrection remix rom, the phones already rooted, but all this talk about kernels is getting me confused.

Reading the instructions;

At stage 1, i assume thats from the sd card?

Yup put the zip on your phone. Boot with Vol up + home + power together & then install the zip & you'll get Aroma come up with more options from there.
