****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Well, there's a notification for a 140MB software update waiting to be had. Unfortunately I'm not at home so can't download it to see what it is yet, but I'm hoping it's Jelly Bean as I can't imagine them rolling out a new ICS update at this point, right? :)

EDIT - Maybe not as just read the JB update isn't supposed ot be out till September. Hmm, maybe Android 4.0.4 then. Drat.

Sounds intriguing nevertheless... you will have to let us know what it is later! ;)

Planning on selling the SGS2 soon as the contract is up. I did a full erase and wipe through CWM yesterday following a guide on XDA and put on a stock ROM and have left it unrooted.

Everything is working in fine, however when I plugged it in to the lappy to add some music to the external SD card, I noticed the internal memory was still full of folders from my old apps I had installed previously.

What did I miss?
If I do a factory reset later will this erase everything anyway?

Can anyone shed some light on my questions from yesterday.

Factory reset may wipe the internal memory, I think if you do it through the phone while in actual Android (ie not in recovery) it will either give you the option to wipe internal memory, or just wipe it, I forget which since I've only ever used recovery.

If it doesn't and there's still stuff on there after a factory reset, just plug it into the PC and delete everything. Anything required by the phone will be rewritten, so don't worry about deleting essential stuff :).

Is there any way to do a "hard reset" on a SGS2??

Mine has suffered some water damage and after a week of it not working it came back to life and was fine for about a week before it froze last night and now it boots to the touchwiz lockscreen but none of the buttons or the touchscreen now works!?!?!

I was wondering if there was anything in the way of a "total reset" in case it's software related? (as the phone has been working OK in the last week or so!)

Thanks...

On my stock SGS2, I have just started to used the Hotmail app. In my phone settings, I have sync set to manual for all apps/accounts, to save battery and data. If I set the hotmail app to sync on push, will it still work or will the phone override the app and not work?

I find it odd that when you launch the app, it doesn't sync either, you manually have to ask it to "check mail".

I'm getting fairly regular disconnects when speaking to people on the phone, much more than I ever used to. At first I thought it was bad reception, but it's happening in areas indoors and outdoors where it used to be solid. After it cuts off, I see a circle with a diagonal line through it, and no bars for the network. After a few seconds all the bars return. Anyone else get this? I'm sure it must be to do with ICS, perhaps a less than stellar installation of it when it upgraded itself via the phone software update a few months back.

If you can get into recovery, you can do a factory reset from there.

I believe Android will override the app. The best solution for battery life would be to add your hotmail account to your gmail account, assign the hotmail account a label and ditch the hotmail app altogether. Won't be push, but it's one less app to sync.

Are you rooted/custom rom? If you are, you could either try doing a titanium backup and doing a full wipe. Or you could try a different radio and see if that has any effect.

Just a quick question guys, bought my Dad a Galaxy S2 on a new contract the other day (Finally getting him away from his £30 Nokia flip phone on PAYG) and looking for a good case for the S2/Screen Cover, do you usually use them on this phone as a "rule"?

is there anything that I need to watch out for with initial setups? he won't be using data out & about really, but only has 100mb allowance for now (Easily upped if we choose to) and will be using WiFi at home.

Thanks :)

These cases are cheap and work well, they add protection and improve grip without adding much bulk http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271068733...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3496wt_1040

Make sure to fit a screen protector too.

Had my S2 for 1.5 years without using a case or a screen protector, no scratches on the screen and very minimal scratching on the casing in various areas. Definitely don't regret not using a case with it, unless you get up close it still looks as good as new.

I'm super careful but i got a light 1cm scratch on the screen within the first month and that was still with a case!! 18 months later i didn't get any other scratches so must have been something freaky for that to happen to it!

As far as I can tell the main culprit of scratches on gorilla glass is sand, metals don't seem to scratch it. So I've always been extra cautious in situations where sand is more likely to get into a pocket, aka at the beach or sitting on grass etc.
