****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Could you guys have a look at that thread and help me please? I'll post it here just incase:

"Ok so I've just rooted my Samsung GT-I9100 with Odin and everything seems to be fine.

Now I want to install - SensatioN ROM 4.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1194765.

How can I do this safely?

Model Number - Samsung GT-I9100
Android Version - 4.0.3
Kernel Version - 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505 se.infra@SEP-94 #3

I've backed everything up with Kies but I just want to load this ROM properly.

Thanks guys"

so if you're rooted you will have some kind of CWM there..

hold power and volume up at the same time - your phone needs to be turned off, you'll boot into CWM

then go clear cache/factory reset - all is controlled by volume/up/down/home/on/off keys - unless you have touch recovery

then go to advanced clear dalvik cache

go back to the first screen

go to install zip from sd card - obviously you need to have the zip of the rom in your SD ROOT directory

select your zip

install it

reboot

enjoy..

i have cut out some corners but you'll get it without explaining everything in detail - if not

will be something like this - http://youtu.be/u5UrkOx0yZE

just newer version of CWM

I'm loving Alliance ROM at the moment but the dailer is boring and old fashioned. Any way to update the dailer only so that the picture fills the screen?

Thanks mate, didn't realize it was so simple. Transferred the zip file to the internal SD card. Rebooted into recovery. Selected the ROM from the SD root directory and installed it. Just rebooted the phone..hopefully everything goes smoothly!

"Android is upgrading" how exciting :P

I figured I'd have a look at the latest roms since i've been on stock for a while. It seems the usual way to root is to boot into CWM and install some root file.

Does this mean I can just install a new ROM by using this CWM which doesn't require a root? Seems like a really easy way to do it (obviously I'll backup first).

I've installed SensatioN ROM 4.1. It runs smoother and there's some cool features.

Is there anything else I need to do? any good apps to get?

And is there a way to customize the icons? thanks!

nope nothing else :) just restore your apps/etc :) and yeah with a custom launcher you can change the icons

PA 2.17 is out now, includes custom notification toggles and the cm10 memory leak fix.

New toggles style. They're unified now to all possible UIs
Navigation bar transparency (i9100)
Double token encryption for security
Double ime button fixed (aosp bug)
Gmail crashes fixed (app bug)
Google now hold-off delay fixed after sysUI restart (aosp bug)
Double notification ticket avatar fixed (aosp bug)
Memory leak fixed by CM! (i9100). Use only stock kernel for now, most of custom kernels won't boot at all untill changes made to fit new blobs / mali code.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't really like custom ROMS. I feel like something will go wrong.

I've gone back to the stock 4.0.3 ROM, seems so much simpler haha

I'm getting fairly regular disconnects when speaking to people on the phone, much more than I ever used to.

Are you rooted/custom rom? If you are, you could either try doing a titanium backup and doing a full wipe. Or you could try a different radio and see if that has any effect.

Nope, not rooted or custom, just bog standard Android 4.0.4 installed via software update on phone. Where's the alternative radio?

if you dont already have CWM installed, the easiest way, imo, is to root the standard firmware with cf-root which includes CWM recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

Find the cf-root that matches your firmware version, flash it in odin (instructions are in that thread) and CWM will be installed along side it. You can then flash any rom that you like.

BVLP7/BVLPE. thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881304
CWM-flashable zip here: http://d-h.st/users/ApriliaM3/?fld_id=5557#files

Dont know about getting on to the device if not rooted (I cant find an odin-flashable zip), you may have to root first.

I've currently got 4.0.3 but I cannot remember which version of it I have.

Is 4.0.4 or 4.1 available? I'm talking about the stock version, nothing customized.

Thanks a lot mate that's very helpful.

I9100XXLPQ Download (FileFactory) | Mirror (HotFile)
Base Firmware: I9100XXLPQ (4.0.3)
Region Poland (XEO)
Build Date: 9th March 2012
Modem: XXLPQ
CSC: OXALPQ

It says it's 4.0.3? or is it actually 4.0.4 lol

I've tried a few customized ROM's but I'm not a fan of all the fancy stuff, the phone runs fine with stock ROM'S for my needs.

However are there any stable 4.1 ROM's? I don't want anything to mess up the battery life or reliability of apps etc

Don't bother with LPQ that is a very old build! Look at the build dates :) It is 4.0.3.

There are no Samsung Stock ROMS for 4.1 yet that is due in November according to rumours.
