****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

How reliable is this phone?

Also anyone know the cheapest you can get it with 400+ mins unlt texts and ~500mb data? (not 3, pretty poor reception in my flat)

My Gf is looking to buy one and trying to get a decent deal.

if you can muster the cash together you can get them for under £250 new on ebay, then PAYG with whoever you want

you shouldn't have difficulty getting one (reliability is fine IMO. had mine since last may ish and haven't had probs that i didn't cause - and then fixed)

no different that with PC parts - we want the new thing so a load are selling to get something newer and shinier - liek the note 2 :)

+1, that's the great thing, if it breaks or something happens to it then if you got the know-how then 9/10 you can fix it yourself with a blast of a new ROM.

Ever since updating to 4.0.4 the battery life hasn't been great :(

According to BetterBatteryStats my phone has been awake 100% of the time. And the graph in battery details is saying that "Mobile network signal" has been the cause.

I had this problem earlier this year but can't remember how it got solved. Does anyone have any knowledge on this problem and a solution hopefully?

Cell standby has used 17% of the battery, MAPServiceSamsung has used 7% too.

Thanks in advance!

Get some screenshots up of battery graphs/usage/bbs etc like below:

Thanks for the pics, it wasn't Cell standby that was the problem though!

Apparently it's the pre-installed Samsung Apps:

So what I did:
Firstly, it is the only time I have ran the test without the battery fully charged. This time it was on 89% to begin with.
Secondly, I went systematically through my list of running applications, and force stopped (Couldn't delete as they were pre-installed on the phone) the following Samsung applications;

1) Samsung Apps - This is the Samsung app store, I also removed my account from the phone, so it doesn't exist in 'Accounts & sync'.
2) Samsung Backup - Not too sure, but presumably a backup method that I don't use as stopping it has had no effect on the phone.
3) Samsung cloud data relay - Not too sure, but presumably a cloud storage method that I don't use as stopping it has had no effect on the phone.
4) Samsung Push service - This is to notify you of updates for Samsung Apps installed on your device via the Samsung App Store

I've basically disabled the Samsung Apps and removed the Samsung account from accounts & sync. I think I did this before and it solved the problem.

The phone is at 3% so I'm charging it now. I will check it tomorrow to see if the battery life has improved by doing this.

I was getting on average with light-medium usage 2-3 days running time so hopefully I can get that kind of performance again lol

Hope this helps anyone else who might encounter this problem :p

The latest official 'stock' firmware, which I got from the above site yesterday is "United Kingdom / Ireland 2012 July (Ver.) 4.0.4 (PDA) I9100XWLPT (CSC) I9100XEULPA"

It is recognised by Kies also, so is definitely stock.

Since doing this, my battery life has increased a lot. Almost 3x I think. After medium usage today it's at 47% @ 20 hours.

JuiceDefender was reset when I installed 4.0.4 so it's only at x1.04 (it was 1.75 or something before). Once that goes up it'll be great again :D.
