****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Still can't update the firmware through Kies on this new replacement phone grrr!

It just gets to 100% (downloading the Update) and then loses connection and Kies closes.

I've not had an S2 in a long while, but I need to update one for somebody later today. What is the latest stock rom for the S2 and where can it be downloaded from? Did the S2 get Jelly Bean? Am I right in thinking it can simply be flashed on the PC via Odin?

Correct, latest stock firmware can be downloaded using the CheckFus downloader

What's Checkfus??? :/ Never used or even heard of it, I normally just download the rom straight from xda forums.

Anyway, a quick search brings up this:

I9100GXXLPY
Base Firmware: I9100GXXLPY (4.0.4)
Region: Europe
Country Germany
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 24 July 2012
Modem: XXLPV
CSC: DBTLP3
Change List: 949833

Can't seem to find any official Jelly Bean roms so I'm assuming the S2 never got it. For anyone running stock ICS on the S2, can they confirm the above is the latest one? Thanks.

That looks to be for a German handset. My UK unbranded S2 is running I9100XWLPT.

Allegedly getting Jelly Bean in November.

Thanks mate I'm gonna search for the version you are running. I've been looking on xda and it seems the one I have downloaded is for the i9100G not the i9100? Didn't even know there were 2 versions of the S2 but I'm not gonna risk flashing it.

Try samfirmware they usually have them all :p.

Yeah there was one that had a Texas Instruments CPU and one that had an NFC chip in the battery.

That ROM I'm running is just the stock Samsung UK unbranded one.

[EDIT]http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9100&pcode=XEU&os=1&type=1# that's the one
[EDIT2]This one United Kingdom / Ireland 2012 July 4.0.4 I9100XWLPT I9100XEULPA Download Unlock Info

If your looking for stock rom's just plug it in to kies and update it via that.

Stock is 4.0.3 or 4.0.4. Mine is up to 4.0.4 but only since a few days ago.

Do we have many cm10 users here?
Works great but the only problem I'm having is I can't get the backlight LED's to stay on. I like them permanently on but they seem to go off after a few seconds no matter what setting I choose.

Nope.

I still think it's a perfectly good phone - I don't notice anything struggling, so I don't see the point in upgrading yet. I'd like the extra size a phone such as the S3 would give, but I couldn't upgrade only for that, so I'm waiting until my contract expires (this month) before deciding where to go next. I'm thinking moving to a monthly sim-only deal and seeing how WP8 comes along in the next few months (tempted by the Ativ S) and what the GS4 is looking like.

Well, I finally rooted and put a custom ROM on my S2 last night - Paranoid Android 2.52, which is a Jelly Bean 4.1.2 based ROM - gotta say, I'm impressed already :) It was very easy to do, and I've been playing with the per-app size settings already - given that I had to install the latest YouTube app, I've set the size to 720px (rather than the default) and it's instantly a much better layout.

I was getting a little bored with it, but this might give me some renewed interest in it!

@koooowweeee No I still have the SII as well, can't really justify an upgrade yet as the SII is still very powerful. Get Paranoid Android it's an amazing ROM.

thought i was the only one left for a second ha ha

the s2 is still a great phone i have no reason at all to change it. I've stopped playing games on it now i have a nexus7 so unless i break it ill have this for at least the next 6 months.

ill check that rom out now

well i would give it a go but the download will not start tried it on two browsers on my phone and don't have a clue which version of gaps to download.
