****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Hi,

My other half has just got a replacement S2 through her insurance, as the one she had broke. I'm not sure what firmware it has on it and I'm under the impression that it's a new handset? (could be a refurb?), anyway, I'm trying to update to ICS through Kies, but it's not having any of it. When I attach the transfer cable and load Kies up I get prompted that there's an update for the phone, I then click update and it starts to download the file (ICS update), only it gets to 100% and just hangs (Kies) and closes, resulting in the update not working.

Anyone have the same issue? Or if there is something I'm doing wrong?

Much appreciated.

Anyone? :)

I've been looking for ages now, but to no avail I can't find anywhere or anything decent.

A few months ago my Brother was going to give me his Samsung Galaxy S2 as he was upgrading to the S3, the day before I was going to get the phone it fell out of his pocket and got trapped in the door as he was getting into the car, the screen has been severely damaged and no longer works. The whole screen is cracked and the display has been damaged as you can see the colour burst across the cracks.

People are quoting £120 - £140 for the screen to be replaced, I'm just wondering whether anyone knows anywhere decent to get the screen replaced in the West Mids area or Cardiff area?

Cheers :)

Believe it or not, Carphone Warehouse.

I got a replacement screen fitted a few months ago from them for £79.99.

Go to one of their stores and ask them about it. You don't need to have purchased the phone from them.

They will probably initially tell you it will cost loads, and try fobbing you off , but get them to actually quote for the repair from their computer, and it should only cost £79.99.

The guys in the store I went to were really surprised at this, and had been adamant before they actually looked that it would cost around £200.

They sent it to their repair center, and I got it back about a week later.

How much do you think it would cost to just replace the Front Glass panel, dropped my phone in the gym and it got a slight scratch. More importantly would having that slight scratch do anything to those recycle sites, as I will be recycling this phone in around 2 months.

The contrast on my S2 has screwed up some how. Only happened about 2 days ago. Its not too bad, but its got a bit more red to it. Any APP or setting to reset this to default?

4.0.3 stock ICS btw.

Completely forgot I posted here, thank you very much for the reply, I'll make sure to get myself down to Carphone Warehouse, afaik we have two where I live, although I'm away at Uni at the moment, so I'll get my Parents to take it down for me, but that's a steal price compared to what they've been previously quoted.

Cheers again :)

Try right clicking the Kies shortcut and select 'Run as administrator' and then try the update. I was getting the same thing happen to me until I did this.

You can get the outer glass from ebay for under £10 and it doesn't look too difficult to change

Could you give me a video to look at, right now all I can find is one where they replace the screen, touch, and digitzer which seems a bit tricky.

So I've been running these builds (CM10, but with a couple tweaks) and they seem to be pretty damn smooth, anyone else care to confirm? :)

New JellyBean gapps as well here:

I really can't see why I should upgrade from this yet, unless the new Nexus is god like..

For me its mostly just the screen, its not bad but a nice 720p screen would be great, but I wouldnt want to upgrade unless everything else in the phone was great too.

If the S2 had a 720p screen it would be the best phone ever tbh! :p

Oh & a better Audio DAC rather than the crap Yahama thing.

Yeah, I love the size of of the s2, its like the right balance for me, good 4.3" screen, light but not to light, and not stupidly thin. The sound is 1 thing that is annoying, more so that I am using a 4.1 rom that doesn't allow me to get past 30% volume.

Similar predicament I'm in too. I've been allowed to upgrade since the beginning of the month, but for the first time ever I'm just not that interested in doing so because my S2 is still so good. I've considered getting the S3, but it didn't wow me on release and it isn't really going to offer that much over what my S2 does now. Currently I'm waiting to see what the Nexus handset(s) are like, I'll see where I go from there.
