****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

thought i was the only one left for a second ha ha

the s2 is still a great phone i have no reason at all to change it. I've stopped playing games on it now i have a nexus7 so unless i break it ill have this for at least the next 6 months.

ill check that rom out now

well i would give it a go but the download will not start tried it on two browsers on my phone and don't have a clue which version of gaps to download.

Not sure why the download won't work but you want this version of gapps: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip

It's just the latest one for CyanogenMod 10.0.x, Android version 4.1.2 (JellyBean)

Does this link work for the ROM? http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/i9100/pa_i9100-2.52-26OCT2012-203004.zip

Same - powerful enough for everything I want it for, decent camera, good storage options, etc... Once the initial 'oooh, shiny!' upon viewing a newer phone has worn off I don't think it's worth me getting another phone for a good while yet, especially now I have a tab as well.

However...

It looks like something pretty terminal's happened to my battery.... Restarting seems to cause the massive drop on the graph, or at least cause it to register... I have no idea what is causing the charge to increase atm while it's unplugged though!

The insane heat it was generating due to some MS activesync thing going haywire might have something to do with it I suppose... Anyway, good job I carry a battery pack and cable or I'd have had a dead phone for most of the day.

What's the best stable ROM for the S2 currently? I've been out of the game but my brother has a S2 and wants it looking and feeling like stock ICS/JB.

I was thinking of just throwing CM9 on there?

Oooh, good call. I shall do just that :D

Edit*
WTF do I get it though, it's not on the CM site!

I'm now an S2 noob :(

Well, I finally rooted and put a custom ROM on my S2 last night - Paranoid Android 2.52, which is a Jelly Bean 4.1.2 based ROM - gotta say, I'm impressed already :) It was very easy to do, and I've been playing with the per-app size settings already - given that I had to install the latest YouTube app, I've set the size to 720px (rather than the default) and it's instantly a much better layout.

I was getting a little bored with it, but this might give me some renewed interest in it!

Where did you download it pal? been looking for a mirror for about an hour.

Mattey1 - If I make a Nandroid backup, what are the conditions to restore from this backup?

Do I have to use the same exact version of the custom recovery? I'm on the Team Win Recovery Project (did my backup via this). Any other info I need to know about Nandroid's?

Or is Nandroid a CWM only thing?

So many noob questions...:o

Cheers, now i need to re-read on rooting this ¬_¬

I feel like a noob again hehe.

CM9 nightly and Dorimanx Kernel has been brilliant for me recently, 1d 3hrs on battery, just under 3hrs screen on a 11% remaining yesterday. This is on a standard battery too.

I'm getting a N4 soon so I flashed back to a stock ROM before I sell it.

Just having an annoying issue with text messages, after 3 texts (in one message) it converts it to an MMS. I need to modify the .apk or download one that's already been done to change that don't I? Or is there an option I'm missing? I think whenever I've been on a stock based custom ROM it was already included in it, and I was only on a stock one for a few days when I first got the phone :(.

I'd rather just keep using the stock messaging app (as it's one of the things I preferred about Samsung ROMs over ParanoidAndroid which I was on before).

Guess I'll have to flash an deodexed ROM too, unless someone's made an odexed version for LPY :(.

I've never used Team Win Recovery before. So i can't really help with that sorry :(

But with CWM you just select backup from the options on screen & then if you wish to restore you just select the restore option & then the back up you made. It'll be a big file though as it backs up everything :) I've always used different versions of CWM over my period with the S2 & never encountered any problems restoring older backups.

opethdisciple you'll be waiting a while seeing as the S3's has only in the last couple of weeks been rolling out officially :p

No problem cheers mattey1 - just checked some YT vids of Team Win and it looks user friendly enough.

I will be finally trying Paranoid Android out - albeit on the Galaxy Nexus - PA looks pretty mental...soo many custom settings...going to kill a lot of time :D

No worries at all! First time I've heard of Team Win but it looks pretty cool might have to check it out when I get the N4, First things first though I'll be putting PA on as soon as its available for it :D

I love the many options you can choose within it, All the different UI styles especially. Gmail with the dual column is fantastic! My favourite UI though is the tab mode :)
