****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Just flashed a pre rooted version of the nordic jb fw. This was over the leaked version. All went swimmingly well. Phone feels quite sprightly. I think im keeping it for a fair bit longer!!

This is exactly what i thought. The GS2 is still....fantastic. I was going to replace it with the Nexus 4 then thought "what's the point?". Now with JB the GS2 flies, looks great and has most of the latest features still. So i thought i'd wait for the GS4 in April time, but even then, i could happily not get the GS4 and carry on with my GS2 for a good while longer! And the fact that i'm not tied into any contracts anymore and am now on a 1 month rolling £7pm sim only deal means i'm saving £23 a month.

Which carrier is your sim now?

Just plugged my S2 into Kies and its saying there is a new firmware pda-lph firmware...Howerver when I go to update it says it will install ICS on it.

I already have ICS version 4.0.3 running on my phone

Any advice?

ICS 4.0.4

Thanks

Considering Samsung has a 22% market share on mobile phones...Kies is utter garbage.

Just tried upgrading firmware and it lost connection half way through:mad:

I have rebooted the phone after unplugging the battery and its working but I think I will give 4.0.4 a miss just CBA with kies and the payoff will be negligible.

Anyone else having issues with spontaneous rapid power drain? Unplugged at 0830 this morning on full charge; tried waking it up at 0900 only to get no response. Reseated the battery and it was at 78%. On a couple of occasions I've also left it at 90+% at the end of the night and it's been fully drained in the morning.

Something sounds very wrong.

Either you have a faulty battery or you have many background services and processes running draining your battery.

As for JB on my 3 branded GS2... I've been waiting since November! :o

I've been checking daily for the update.... I sent a message to 3 to see if they had any eta, and they just said they haven’t received it from Samsung yet but should be available soon...

Thanks

Don't do it! I found 4.0.4 fixed so many issues i had with 4.0.3. Don't ask me what issues because i can't remember now :p but it made quite a few minor niggly things better.

TBH, i would just download the Official 4.1.2 JB Nordic release and install that through Odin - it really isn't difficult or risky

Yes, approx 60% battery drain over night - battery stats show it's maps and google+ so have disabled gps for now. Couple of freezes solved by removing battery.

Other than that fine, but significantly more battery drain than before. I've really noticed the difference and surprised no one else has?

Hi, probably been asked and answered before, but I'll ask anyway...

My wife needs a new phone and one with a decent camera (S3/HTC One X are too big, One S out of stock everywhere) - is the S2 still a good phone to get for this?

Also does the stock keyboard support 4x3 layout, and haptic feedback?

Are there "better" alternatives to this and the One S for the camera but at this screen size (max)?

Thanks.

Prob best to give this question it's own thread.

So I'm getting bored of waiting for Jelly Bean and have started downloading the Nordic firmware update from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487

Some questions:
- I keep seeing mention of how to change "CSC" - what is this and do I need to change it to update the phone to Jelly Bean with the Nordic version?
- Are there any problems installing the Nordic version or can I just set the language to English and carry on?
- I'm not brave enough to try rooting my phone - I understand completing these procedure is a simple firmware update though, not a root, is that right?

Ignore CSC, you don't need to worry about it :).

There's no problems running a ROM from another region, most people using custom ROMs don't use one from their region.

Rooting and flashing firmware is exactly the same procedure using Odin (well, rooting might be easier if the firmware has 3 files instead of 1 :p), either way it's incredibly simple to update/root with Odin :).

Excellent. Might give it a try then.

Only other question; does this cause problems with my carrier (O2)? I'm assuming that the settings for calls and texts will be on the SIM, but I don't want to have a flash new operating system on a phone that I cant use to call or text.

EDIT: Doesn't work anyway. Turned off the phone, got it into Download mode. Opened Odin, loaded the .tar.md5 file, clicked start......it seemed to be doing something then after a couple of minutes, it came up FAIL. Hmm.

EDIT EDIT: Restarted phone and tried again. Seems to be doing it now :)
