****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Thanks will have a look at Neat too.

My nephews S2 is running a very old (12month+) version of CWM. Is it wise to update it before flashing a new ROM. And I've never updated CWM. Do I just literally just flash a new version via CWM?

His current ROM is stock rooted ICS 4.0.3. LP7.

I don't know that much about flashing roms really. Just noticed it changed every time there is a update. It's not always Philz kernel, think he uses what ever is best at the time.

Anyone else had a random bootloop start after the JB OTA update? It let me into download mode, but not recovery mode which was annoying as it seems that a solution would have been to do a factory reset... It randomly happened about 10 days after the update I think and since then I've been blundering around trying to flash various versions of firmware onto my S2 each time to be greeted with 'FAIL!'. Anyone know where I can get the full selection of stock firmware and settings to flash with that are sure to work? (I don't even care if it goes back to GB, justg want my phone back...)

Yeah I got one set from there, but it didn't come with a PIT file, but just as one big PDA file and it didn't work, it failed at factoryfs.img - I might download some other ones and see though. I was wondering if there was an actual official samsung source I could get all the files I need from though?
edit: just realised a possible error could be that at least one of the other versions i tried wasn't for the version locked to O2, which mine might well be.
edit2: nope, it was the right version
edit3: Thanks, cjgardens (below), I'll try going down that avenue.
edit4: Super, Samsung (or 'Regenersys') fixed it for me (if the report is to be believed and I read the part no's right they replaced the main circuitboard lol). When they returned it there was dust in the camera though... so I returned it again and they returned it with that fixed too. Not the ideal experience, but still, pretty relieved they sorted it out!

My friend had the exact same problem. But his broke after 5 days.

Phone Samsung and tell them your problem, if the phone is under 3 years old they will fix it. Or at least that's what a friend told me so don't shoot the messenger lol.

This is probably the reason the s2 isn't getting any more updates, because I would expect the to fix my phone if i updated and it became faulty

Just wondering whether anyone knows any good notification LED apps? As I'm aware that there is a notification led (correct?) but there's not option to turn it on, or am I being blind?

Edit: I've found an app called NoLED but the permissions seem a bit too over the top, not liking how it wants to read your messages and can delete them etc.

My upgrade is due in two weeks so it'll be time to say goodbye to the SII. I'll be giving it to my daughter though for games and media only. She's only 4 so no sim and aeroplane mode only!

I don't really know what to get next, probably the HTC...

Only way I know of is to get the navigation buttons to blink but if I remember correctly it is a bit of a battery hog. Unless that has been sorted by now?

yeah thats the only way... never worked the way it was meant too on my old s2 tho

if you are happy with just solid lit then the hit on battery life was minimal in my experience.

Cheers for the replies, I think I'm going to pass, battery life atm doesn't seem too good as it is, it doesn't bother me checking for notifications, just would have been nice for them to have implemented the LED.

Another question, can anyone recommend a good ROM?
