***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Interesting to note, people freezing stuff using Titanium, don't freeze MyFiles.apk as when you plug a USB drive in, it calls for MyFiles which auto loads and shows you the drive contents. MyFiles is also called in other areas around the phone.

No idea why people would freeze apps on the S3 given that you can disable probably most of them anyway using the S3 itself...

I know yours "came with" but do you know where I could get one of those usb ssd adapters, or even a part No, it looks ultra handy:cool:

Edit, after a few unsuccessful searches last night I gave up, just done an Eb search and instantly got plenty of hits.

Very good!

Wonder how a pure stock ROM gets on without any apps being frozen?

Was that automatic brightness as well mrk? And was eye tracking on?

EDIT:

Roughly how much time was spent browsing the web and playing games?

Manual brightness, I don't use Auto and plus I find it too dim on auto on the S3 with stock kernel.

Web and games total time is hard to tell exactly but guestimate would be a couple of hours combined. The rest was all using various aspects of the phone as mentioned. Oh and 18 minutes of voice calls.

Haptic feedback was left enabled of course and keyboard vibration. I've now turned off the capacitive button lights as I don't really need them on, looks smarter too :p

So do SG3 owners all agree that the HOX has a better screen? Cause from what I've seen I'm not so sure.

Yes and No. For text the OneX screen is a bit nicer to read on but only at lower brightness levels/ higher than 50% and it's too bright but so is the AMOLED for indoors usage. outdoors the GS3 is fine, easier to read than the S2 from what I can see.

Can you guys with cameras that have manual control test something for me?

Following on from a post by someone else about weird blotches on an all black image displayed on the screen, I checked mine today in pitch darkness and noticed a faint 2 inch or so of blackness on one edge of the screen along with smaller blotches. It doesn't appear to be as visible as the other poster's though but I exaggerated in in the photo so it's easier to see and settings posted below for people to check as well.

This is only visible on an all black screen. This does not exist on any of the S2's I've owned. I'll check my dad's S3 tonight when I go see him in the same way but the way to photograph it to keep the results consistent are as follows:

Stick camera and phone in a cupboard and...
Phone screen brightness: 50%
Camera ISO: 200
Camera Shutter: 15 seconds
Camera Aperture: f/4.5
Remember to pre-focus and use the 10sec timer to avoid shake :p

Those settings will over exaggerate the effect as shown in my photo below but it makes it easier for everyone to see as you do have to focus your eyes in reality and it's not immediately obvious unless you're in pitch darkness and looking at an all black screen.

I don't know how I feel about this though but if it's visible using the above camera settings for lots of people then I'll leave it as is.

Again, it's only visible on an all black screen so make sure your image that you load is all black and not grey or something :p Make sure screen timeout is set to at least a minute to avoid the screen going off!

So far this many people h ave reported similar blotches:

XDA: TBC
OcUK: 1

I've posted it on XDA too so will see what everyone comes back with. If it's common on many phones then it probably won't be worth replacing as I'll likely get one back with the same blotches perhaps.

Yoiu'll never notice it unless you're in complete darkness though thankfully!

Very nice then! :)

Same with my S now, except the other way round, it is far too bright in every condition :p

Keyboard vibration turned on?! pfffft! :p

Because if you're rooted it's far quicker freezing using Titanium than manually scrolling through a massive app list and going into its settings then disabling, then going back and cycling the same process for the next app.

Yep I get that too, I was waiting for a channel to buffer on the TVCatchup app and noticed blotches all over the screen.

Cheers, I will keep a running total by updating my other post with how many people have confirmed blotches!

@mrk Just to let you know that I have no screen blotches on my Pebble Blue S3. I did the test last night and was expecting some but to my surprise my screen seems blotch free!

Thanks, I've actually just tested the white one here too as above, that too has no blotches.

All the hubs, various Samsung apps that I never use, Samsung keyboard included among lots of other ones that didn't apply to me which includes the live wallpapers as well.

Generally I uninstalled any of the pre-installed apps that showed up in the menu that I never used. At some point I may go through and get rid of the more "hidden" stuff, but at the moment I don't feel the need to.

No worries! It's good to read that there are S3's out there that do not have issues with screens. It seems that Samsung have tightened their QC with the S3 as I recall reading quite a lot of owners reporting issues with the S2.

Haven't noticed any on my white S3 either, had a good look last night and it appears to be completely clear!
