skully i've been reading about something called csc codes. would i simply be able to change this on the phone to uk and then update to the latest official firmware from KIES or will it still think i have a german firmware? This is all so complicated :(

Err, pass.

It should just be UK language etc once you've flashed with a UK ROM.

I've just Googled CSC and found the following link

Please do note the part where everything is reset, this goes for flashing any ROM too (with some small exceptions).
 
Got mine yesterday, spent 30 seconds making sure it worked and then last night tried AOKP and CM10, left CM10 on it. Very happy.

All I'd like is a black screen SMS screen, my One S with CM10 was a black screen with white text, the S3 is the other way round.

Any idea if you can change that?

Oh yeah, I'd also like to either turn off or have some sort of control over the softkey lights, they turn off too quickly which means they're on and off all the time when scrolling through a webpage or text.. any ideas?

Other than that.. its huge and awesome, I think Apple have lost me (had every generation of iPhone and several android phones, iOS was head and shoulders above android until ICS and since then it's very much switched, JB just pushes that even further IMO)..

maybe I'm being dim, all I can see is

Status bar
notification drawer
wallpaper
font size
power menu
hardware keys

and I can't for the life in me see anything about light timeouts?
 
Yeah you're right it's not in that particular menu and turns out it may be device specific.

Try checking under Device -> Advanced -> Screen -> Touchkeys

Can anyone what the i in the notification bar means? I it appeared last night..

Ive, not been getting message notifications either so wonder if it's something to do with that.
 
Ahhh excellent thanks! I'd checked all sound settings etc to see if it was anything to do with that. I charged my phone with a cheap ebay charger last night. Woke up and my phone was having a party this morning. All settings had changed, it was on a samsunSamsung website downloading the Samsung logo. Seemed to go crazy..
