***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Is there a nack for getting films transferred to another S3 via nfc/sbeam or should it work all the time?

There's 4 people at work who Ive tried to send films to with the above method and most of the time it fails. It can be 10% into the transfer or 100% (was just about to finalise and then failed). Ive tried a gap of a few mm's to a few inches and its always the same.

Makes me very :(

I've had success just doing a few photos between mine and my brothers S3. Haven't tried anything larger than a few mb though!

Also is there a certain kernel people have found to be best having used the aosp jellybean ROM on my s1 will probably go with his s3 version unless any of you know of better ones. I have always used Odin to do the kernel is that still the way or is there something new. Look forward to hearing from you experienced people I tend to find a kernel and ROM I am happy with and stick with it not as adventurous as some of you :-).

Best kernels are either Siyah Kernal, Perseus or Yank555. I've used all three. Siyah and Perseus are configured through an S-Tweaks app. Siyah has a lot more configuration options than Perseus, but they're fairly similar. Yank555 is flashed through cwm and configured in an Aroma installer.

Siyah and Perseus can be flashed through odin as a .tar or through cwm as a .zip :)

Digging a little deeper I found this,

Note: Both devices must be active — they cannot be in the lock screen or screen off mode — before the S Beam connection can be made. When the device's screen is locked or off, the NFC communication is turned off as part of the device's security features.

Could be this as their screen dims and has gone off once or twice. Ill try again.

Wifi direct works better for me, I too have had transfer issues with s-beam to the point where I just don't bother.

There's a mod somewhere that enables NFC on the lockscreen or with the screen off.

Shouldn't make much difference in your case though. I thought S-Beam uses NFC to establish a wifi direct connection to transfer the files. Wifi direct should stay on regardless of the lockscreen/screen off.

When I used to zoom in on ocuk forum on my htc the text would rearrange itself to be bigger but still all in view. With this s3 the text no longer jiggles around to fit in the screen. Any tips in what I can do? Hope that made sense.

That would have been the Sense browser using text reflow. You'll need to find a browser that has this feature. I think Opera and Dolphin have it, not sure on many others as I don't use it :)

Check in the settings for the samsung browser though, it might have it (not on a stock rom so I can't check!).

I keep the film running while sending so the screen is on. Ill get them to touch the screen so it resets their countdown til screen off.

As said, that is a feature of HTC sense.

AFAIK, no other OEM skin has this and the only 3rd party browser to support it is opera....

IIRC quick ics/ics + has some text reflow setting, however, that may have only been for devices where the stock browser already supported text reflow? Plus since the JB update for the S, text reflow no longer works in 3rd party browsers so not sure if the same would have happened for other devices?

No probs mrk :) was worth an ask!

I worked out earlier that my phone is currently on 149 days of active duty and going strong...

There's a lot of talk on XDA about it being related to the bootloader causing constant writing to the NAND and causing the eMMC chip to fail - don't know if there's any truth in this, but the consensus over there is that any bootloader starting with an A (eg. mine is I9300ALF6 was written before the bug came about... so should be considered "safe"

Not sure how much truth is behind this, but I thought I'd pass on what I've read :)

If you want to check, download Android System Info from the Play Store and go to the System tab and tap on Buildinfos, that'll give you your bootloader version :)

Hey Enigma, would you still like the Rock Quicksand case? JanesyB has gotten himself an iPhone 5 after a bad spell of issues with the S3 so the case is up for grabs again :)

Settings > Advanced > Auto-fit Pages

Text Reflow is working fine for me in the stock browser. You just have to double tap the screen after zooming.

Thanks for the info benjo will look into those and see which one suits me best gotta root it as I got mybackuppro so I could copy everything including data. Looking forward to getting it and having a play going to be a big step up from my old galaxy s.

£1 MILLION!

Forward me your postal details and I will put it in the post tomorrow. No cost needed.

Ah, shame that :(

It is quite surprising that all OEM skins and even stock android don't implement it as it is extremely useful and probably one of the most important features for a browser.

Text reflow is nice on HTC, just got the Mrs a one S as it's obviously a girls phone and cheap, after using it and coming back to the S3 it really doesn't compare.

I'm struggling not to upgrade to the note 2 though, I'm avoiding the high street so I do think get sacked into thee three store. Will resist until the GS4.
