***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Issues with 4.3 release:

Major issues in new Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S III:-
- Wake up lag (Sometimes it takes a few seconds to wake the device from standby and sometimes a few minutes)
- Random Freezing
- Huge battery drain
- Bluetooth Audio issues during playback in car
- Stuttering music playback with stock Samsung music app
- Device freezes as soon a call is received (Black screen issue)
- Poor RAM management (very difficult to multitask)
- Wi-Fi issues

Samsung UK response:

“As we are currently investigating the reported issues with Galaxy S3 4.3 Jelly Bean update, the upgrading service has been temporarily suspended. We are committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience, and will ensure to resume the upgrading service at the earliest possibility.” – Samsung Mobile UK

Didn't last long.

For those that want to go back to 4.1.2, you'll need to flash the stock firmware with Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610

You're going to lose all your data though, so back anything up.

If anyone's interested, I'm running 4.4 on my S3 now. Seems completely stable so far :)

Which ROM is that?

I haven't bothered downloading 4.3 from sammobile because of the issues reported.

On a simless USA dual core 2GB ram model. Things I have noticed so far.. having to press twice on selections even though it seems to realise the touch but then does nothing. Bad battery drain, most noticeable over night (not wake locks).

Still on 4.1.2, no option for better yet.

Hi guys long time looking on from the outside here and finally made an account. Recently purchased and S3 since the first time I got it and have to admit the Jelly Bean experience is beautiful and much better than I expected!
Coming from an iPhone I have a few questions and would appreciate it if anyone could help.

" I havent rooted the phone"

1) I liked seeing the notifications on the iPhone but cant seem to see them on here, I remember someone mentioning dash clock? but because I haven't rooted the phone it says its not compatible, are there any other apps?
2) The standard icons, mehh they will do but is there anything else like a theme? Something that I can have a fiddle around with.
3) Could anyone show me a picture of a home screen layout, i like the customisation available but want something that will look smart yet stylish at the same time.
4)Which features can I take off to make the phone seem even smoother?

This phone the second time round feels so much better for me, I will be honest and say I am a big fan of the smoothness of ios and Windows Phone 8 and didn't really praise Android much at all. However things have changed and I am not thinking of selling this phone (Did the first time) Thanks guys and have a great night, had so many questions to ask but watched Doctor Who and forgot most of them

1. Dashclock is only compatible with 4.2 and onwards. You could give something like Widgetlocker a try, and then find whatever notification widget you like and place it on the lockscreen.

2. If you install a custom launcher like Nova or Apex, you can install tonnes of icon themes from the play store. They're also a lot more customizable than the Touchwiz launcher.

3. Here's my current one http://i.imgur.com/BPD3fX0.png and an older one http://i.imgur.com/rXtYn.jpg. You can do the same with Nova (except hiding the status bar). Check out the Screenshots thread on these forums, lots of stuff there.

4. Just try running Nova or Apex to start with, you probably don'd need to remove much. I'm not sure how old this list is, but it has apps you could remove https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqTvctlW89DtdC1qVUlLeVFTV3ZOdUtDclpBdVRQOUE&pli=1#gid=0.

You'll need to be rooted to get rid of most of the stuff, but you'll probably be able to just disable them in the app settings.

My advise - Install a custom stock rom :)

Thank you for feedback mate I appreciate it a lot! I had a fiddle round but something didn't feel right, love love love your current set up that looks amazing!!! sorry if i sound like a noob and really annoying, but do you know if there are any wp8 style themes but genuine ones? I'm not the most experienced to comment on android but i have always been told go for the respected ones. However overall I am loving this experience and even after a few hours i love how much freedom there is compared to iOS. Obviously I am missing certain things but as time goes on and i get the hang of this OS I think good times lie ahead. (sorry if that didn't make sense)

You could check out Launcher 7. It's a launcher so it replaces the 'home' interface.

I'd give some other launchers a chance though before you overhaul completely :p Try Nova or Apex, they give you a lot more customisation over stock.

I have the Official Samsung 3000 mAh Extended Battery coming tomorrow. Lookking forward to awesome stamina.

Have the matching Diztronic case ordered too.

Would get the extended battery except I am using the Ballistic Hard Core case (essential with a three year old!)

I got the 4.3 update today. Seem to have better battery life. Only issue was a download that kept Redownloading, I cleared cache on download service and its all good now.

Also, started using Novo Launcher as on my previous phone, once setup it is good.

Recently did the same. The extra 900 mAh was such a relief. Can finally use it as smartphone with that extra reserve.

It is reassuring to have a big battery - adds a nice bit of wight too. Only about 2mm thicker than stock.

.

I got mine today and I was pleasantly surprised that it 'just about' fits in my standard Diztronic TPU case. Result!

I have a proper extended case on the way too. Might not need it now lol.

What case are you guys using? Looking at the 3000mAH battery myself but not sure as I don't want to go without a case, but at the same time, I don't want a massive case either.

EDIT - Got the official Samsung 3000Mah battery and back cover ordered, and ordered a Diztronic extended case designed for it all for less than 30 quid, rather a happy chappy as the battery issue nearly made me buy an Iphone the other day, hopefully this will allay my fears now.

Seriously considering this option also. It's fine while I'm at work (I work in an office so can plug it in if it gets too low) but on the weekends it's almost unusable! :'(
