**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S20 Family Thread ****

Just bought it FE (5g)

170 up front
23ppm
30gb 5g
37 cashback

All in that's

685

If consider I pay 10ppm per month currently for less data effectively that's 445 for the phone .

I'm happy with that

This custom EQ will balance the speakers, keep Atmos set to auto and enjoy really nice dynamic range without the mids being too forward. Perfect for both music and media I find. The speakers are now on par with my S10e as I forgot I had a custom EQ on that and when I got the S20 the speakers out the box felt lacking by comparison.

If you listen on headphones then set this with headphones disconnected so it saves to the speakers, then use Adapt Sound to tune the headphones properly when they are connected. Dual purposes sorted then.

Let me know how you get on with it. Been hearing issues about the touch layer on this device that multiple updates have no fixed yet.
I've mentioned previously I have noticed no issues at all in actual use. In fact the first update made a significant improvement to the fingerprint scanner I feel.
However, I recently downloaded the Touch Screen Test app which is the one that highlights issues (as per the YouTube video) and here I do get the ghost touches. How reliable this is app is I'm unsure. I used on my wife's S10e and had no issues at all.
But as I say I've yet to see any effect in real world use.

Well worth getting a high end Micro SD card on a flagship phone. I thought the SanDisk 200GB Ultra was good already but didn't realise just how much faster the Extreme Pro cards are to write to. Went from a 200GB to 512GB:

Not noticed any issues except for it sometimes not recognising my fingerprint first time but that's probably my own fault for enabling it with the screen protector on.

It seems a bit snappier than the Pocophone F1 it replaced but not by much. Camera is impressive though and I've not even had chance to use it properly yet.

Wife has a S20 Ultra with a bit of a weird WhatsApp issue.

For some reason it is sending video files in full quality which is fine for some phones but it seems family members with more basic handsets are not able to download and play them. When you Google the issue you actually get the opposite of people asking how to send the high quality originals.

For some reason her phone is not compressing them at all. Not great with 4K videos.

Tested on my S10E and mine works fine and while I film in 4K, whatsapp will compress them before sending.

Anyone seen this before? Tried taking the app off and back on and it makes no difference but suspect it only does a soft uninstall.

What do you mean soft uninstall? When you uninstall an app its data is also removed which is why when you reinstall WhatsApp it needs all settings re-set back up again and you need to log back in with correct authentication. The only things in the WhatsApp folder on internal storage is the backup files that are created daily/weekly and stored media files if you have media set to download automatically or if you click the download button in a chat.

The only thing I can think of is that she's sending HDR10+ and/or HEVC encoded videos that are unable to be converted by WhatsApp because it cannot convert them to a standard format. Only the Samsung gallery app can do this so any media shared by default from within the gallery or Samsung video player app or camera app will automatically be converted to SDR ready for normal sharing within message apps etc and will then be downscaled by those apps.

Best option is to not record with the HDR10+ or HEVC options selected in the Samsung camera app settings. Keep normal HDR set to auto by all means as that's very different to the HDR10+ setting buried in the main settings screen.

Thanks for that, checked the settings and it looks like HEVC and HDR were off.

I did however work out the issue/workaround and it was simply the case that when she sends any videos on WhatsApp, you have to crop at least a tiny bit off within WhatsApp as that then kicks it into actually compressing the video down to 640x480.

WharsApp themselves say you can only send 16MB videos but that must be outdated information as hers will happily send the 4K videos!?

Not sure why it doesn't attempt to still compress it even if you still send the entire timeline but at least we got to the bottom of it.

Hmm interesting,, I just tested this out with videos I have sent and saved videos others have sent in both group chats and solo chats.

I sent a 4K 60fps video and that sent as 4K 60fps even tough the screen that comes up allowing you to trim the video etc showed the video would be 1.1MB (I had not touched the trim sliders yet), so even though it said 1.1MB the video sent was the full 5 second long 4K 60fps file.

I downloaded a video sent by someone else on their Galaxy S10, they recorded the video at 1080P and the video appears to be that full 1080P as well at over 30MB in size.

I then re-sent the 4K 60 video to the same chat but this time trimmed it by 1 second in the same window as above and this video now sent as 640x480 although it retained the 60fps.

How odd!

Have recently fitted an XtremeSkins to the back of my FE which fits perfectly and feels much better than the spigden case I bought for it but not to happy with the GESMA tempered glass as it only just covers the main screen (not the black border)

Does anyone know of a TG that will fit the full screen incl border?

I did a test with both cards with a storage test app to confirm this and there is a noticeable difference especially with write speeds:
