@mrgubby

I know that the S20 FE hasn't got Macro but can you zoom up close and take a good picture?
eg Could you take a photo of a circuit board and see all the words, take a photo of very small writing on packets/boxes and read it OK?

The telephoto lens seems to have the closest focus. These shots were taken handheld with lighting from a 60w ceiling light

I’ve been through the last 15-20 pages and I’ve seen it said a few times that getting the 5G version ensures you get the snapdragon chip instead of Exynos? Unless I’ve misunderstood?

If so can someone point me to evidence of this as I can see anything online to corroborate that? In fact everywhere I’ve looked states the 5G version of the S20 (standard, plus or ultra) all run in the Exynos 990.

the only option I’ve seen to get the snapdragon is to import from HK.

It's only the S20 FE that comes with the Snapdragon on the 5g variant. With regards to the rest of the S20 lineup you are SOL.

So ended up ordering an S20 5G 128GB (4G not in stock) - Comes with the free AKG Y-500 headphones which will be going straight on the marketplace. My SD855 S10e will probably go on Gumtree. Reason for the sudden change is I'm just a bit fed up of hearing of the Android 11 beta, updates taking a couple months on the HK variant and generally wanting a new phone itch. It's lasted me since launch so the S20 should easily last 2 years.

Plus I should be able to claw at least a couple hundred from the S10e anyway so this is all good I'd say.

Looking forward to trying out OneUI 3.0 as well, and maybe even switching back to Samsung Pay as that doesn't work in the UK for non UK Samsung phones

Still debating this...think I’ve got it worked out well though if I do pull the trigger.

S20 plus 5G from the place that used to have a catalogue but now doesn’t, simfree £999 and can get £440 from selling current phone on a phone purchasing site. Looking round at sim only contracts, the oxygen place do unlim/unlim/5gb for 12 months at £15. Also I use a cash back app where I can get 2% on the phone purchase, so another almost £20. Total cost for the year is £719. Technically as well I can get 4 months YouTube premium and 6 months Disney+!

It's available over on the rainforest for £900 new or even £695 renewed which seems like a bargain.

Updated to Android 11 earlier and so far all real nice. I am using 120Hz on FHD which is just fine and have to say scrolling is really slick, never thought I'd find much difference as had no issues with 60Hz but it really is noticeable.

Like that it's only a half cm taller than the S10e whilst being under 1mm narrower. The 900mAh bigger battery should yield good results for my usage. S10e got be 20+ hours from a charge.

Phone has not adapted to my usage patterns yet but the first full charge cycle got me this result which I'm quite pleased with. The S10e SnapDragon wasn't as high a screen on time as this and was more around 4 hours mark. Also like the super fast charging when needed, just over an hour from 1% to full is extremely handy

Anyone with the s20 fe version got slight screen issues? When using my phone with the spigen hybrid armour case, the bottom few cm dont seem to work all the time.. with out it is fine.. I am using a clear thin case at thr moment and no issues but it won't help that much with a drop. only seemed to be with the armour case

I have a dead spot on my screen but its on the lower left side and only occurs when Game Booster is running. Very weird but something I can live with.

Got the back skin today, as much as I really like the non-metallic grey back of the S20, I still hate fingerprints on the back as it's not coated like the front is and a skin is just nicer too.

S20 FE.

5g is the one to get for the better chip right? Even if I won't be seeing 5g any time soon.

£599 everywhere at the moment it seems

Best to just get from Samsung in case of any touchscreen issues?

Are Samsung still doing the trade in? I'd have thought as long as it's not an import it wouldn't matter where it was purchased.
5g version is just about worth it for chipset but it may matter more or less to other people. I'm not a mobile gamer or much of a power user however I do enjoy the significantly better battery life. Plus the 5g should carry considerably better resale value.

Someone try explaining this, the S20 5G is charging wirelessly faster than the S10e, both are supposed to be 15W fast wireless charging as far as I can see. The S10e took 2hrs 40mins to charge from around 10%, the S20 is taking 2hrs 19mins. I am using the Samsung convertible pad/stand charger which outputs 15W of Qi.

Anyhows, battery life now tested on both 60Hz and 120Hz. Granted the 60Hz was with WiFi only as I was home them, whilst the 120Hz one was finished today where I was out between 05:30am through to around 10am so was on 4G until return to home. Standard optimised power mode no social media restricted etc.

Really impressed. My S10e Snapdragon was good for 3100mAh but I could never get near 5hrs on that display whereas here I am able to get it at 120Hz and it's the Exynos which people were saying to avoid... Granted the battery is 900mAh larger but that is offset against the 120Hz and slightly larger and brighter display too.
