I've got the latest update (ATCH) for Exynos on mine and the autofocus seems much improved.

Interesting, hopefully this will improve the autofocus issues as to be honest if it doesn't mine is going back. Used the camera for the first time properly yesterday and the focus issue is bad.

Had my S20+ for a week now.

The camera is unacceptable for this price point. The software seems to apply hideous amounts of image processing and over-saturates the image. Can anyone recommend any decent 3rd party apps that take more natural images, it can't be that much worse than the iPhone from a hardware perspective surely.

Still waiting for my Ultra pre-order from EE. After seeing the differences between the Snapdragon and Exynos I am in two minds. I’m not worried about the performance thus, much but more then he battery differences. I am also thinking about potentially just going for the S20+ instead but hear that it suffers from bad battery?

Does the S20+ have the 30x zoom?

Yes and it's unusable. The images are very obviously pixelated.

Is your scene optimiser turned on or off? I find it's better to have it off on Samsung phones (and others to be fair) to produce more natural colours.

Had a little play with the camera yesterday, images looked sharp and colourful. However I did have focusing issues and it really struggled with an easy focusing situation in the high MP mode.

Had a play on a family members S20 Ultra over the weekend, it was nice but had it side by side against my Note 8 and there definitely wasn't £1000+ of upgrades there, not even close.

Apart from a better camera the whole experience/UI of the two were pretty much exactly the same, was almost nothing in it speed wise either.

I guess upgrading to a new Samsung is now similar to iPhone, same **** different year.

Upgrades have been iterative for ages now, regardless of the manufacturer. Slightly better camera, slightly better screen, slightly faster SoC etc etc. Moving from 60hz to 120hz is, however, a big jump in my mind. High refresh phones won't be in any way unique to Samsung this year.

Lots of in-depth battery information and comparisons between the Exynos and Snapdragon.

With the telling end paragraph:

"For people whose purchase decisions is heavily influenced by the battery life of the devices, I think it’s safe to say that the Exynos S20 variants will likely end up as underwhelming. Power users in particular using heavy apps will see very disappointing results – I would likely recommend either importing a Snapdragon unit, or just outright skipping this generation altogether."

I'm a week in now on the Ultra and have to say this is genuinely one of the worst upgrades I've ever done. The battery life, the camera and fingerprint scanner performance are all very sub par.

The camera has multiple focusing issues, there is so much sharpening on the images halos are visible even without zooming in and it seems impossible to turn off the fake bokeh blur. Battery life is hilarious....10% can vanish in the blink of an eye and yesterday my fingerprint scanner would not recognise my thumb again. I have to restart my the phone 3 times now because of this.

Thank you - that's me cancelling my Ultra EE pre-order. Was looking forward to that amazing screen but last year my S10+ had terrible battery compared to what people were reporting for the SD version - I hoped this would be improved this year. Very disappointing.

Very disappointing.

The trouble is, the standard, plain old S20 could have been the perfect foil to the coming iPhone 12 Pro (and 6 months earlier), but Samsung blew it with a bad SoC, an 120hz mode that's really badly optimized (when Apple do it, we'll see it done the right way. I'm sure OP will do it better too.) and a camera with no real optical zoom. It's like they've cut as many corners as possible to save costs, while still charging a huge amount for the phone.

And it seems like they released a half-finished product with the Ultra camera. I hope Samsung can sort that out soon, at least.

I must be lucky with my s20 + performance and battery life has been really good for my usage.
I will say though I wasn't very impressed with the camera either its definitely better than my last phone HTC U12 + but I was expecting better.

I am hearing good things with the latest firmware update around the camera.

I got my buds+ delivered today.

I'm quite happy with my Ultra at the moment. Although I'm ok with my battery performance I'm hopeful that a cutie update to bring in some sort of adaptive refresh rate might help throngs further.

Not sure I'll get 12 months out of it though, will see what else turns up with the Pixel 5 and maybe even the iPhone.

Edit: Anyone not already using One handed gestures + should definitely give it a go. I've been using it for a while (on my Note 10 previously) but I didn't realise till last night you can have a iOS-esque reachability shortcut.
