The Exynos v SD debate seems to be in a bit more focus this year. I think it's good that companies are put under pressure for stuff like this.

I'm regretting my decision really, and should have waited to see what the oneplus 8 pro has to offer.

I will never buy a exynos phone again, and I've had a few over the years, but the price they are asking now for an inferior product is wrong. I let the upgrade itch get the better of me lol. Up until the s20+ its never really overly bothered me, but its the price thing, and the fact its so far behind the sd865. If Samsung accepted this and charged less for European markets we could possibly stomach that compromise, but its hard to now. They obviously wouldn't charge less though.

When I first had the phone I had abysmal battery life, even after the first few days of settling down. I narrowed that down to smart switch. So I reinstalled from scratch and since then its been better overall, but also very irratic. Some days I get 5hrs sot, and then others I'm having to top up. That seems to be more when I've used the thing for what's its designed to do, be a phone. The battery just seems to evaporate if your on a phone call. Never seen it on any other phone before, not to this degree anyway.

My note 9 was great in every aspect and never had to top up etc, and I don't use my s20 any differently than the note 9. I know that was exynos too, but again didn't seem to have these issues.

I know you get a battery hit with the 120hz screen, which is great. But im thinking its too much of a hit, for exynos anyway. The optimisation of the sd865 seems to make it a non issue in comparison.

The snapdragon s20 seems like an excellent phone but the exynos version seems a good few steps behind which has annoyed me and stopped me from pulling the trigger.

I need a new phone but havent a clue what to get. Do I import a snapgragon s20 and have no warranty, one plus have a new phone coming out but they always are weak in the camera department or do go back to an iphone something I really do not want to do as since I have switched I much prefer android?

At least people aren't thinking I'm some lone madman walking around with a billboard when I've been saying it's unacceptable that Samsung charge us the same for Exynos variant :D

I'm still getting on ok with mine so far to be honest. I don't think the battery is as good as the 5000mah should give it, but I'm still getting acceptable levels with 120Hz. I did try 96Hz but it didn't feel as fluid and there's barely any impact on battery life.

Biggest issue for me is the smoothing from the camera, I do tend to use Pro mode a lot anyway - but can't use the other lenses with that.

What are you seeing battery wise buddy?

I'm always weary of quoting things like SoT as it will still vary depending on what you're doing and poor mobile signal will also have an impact.

But I'm getting to bed each night at 40-50% left with 4-5hrs SoT. Thats mainly browsing, apps a bit of Youtube and gaming. Obviously I'm not going anywhere much at the moment, but this is on par or better than I used to get out of my last 2 phones (P3 XL, Note 10) with a similar usage pattern.

Someone who is out and about all day with a different usage pattern will get completely different results - but for me it's fine.

Thanks buddy. Do you have the Ultra?

I was going to get an S20 Ultra to replace my S9+ but looking at the differences between the two versions, I think I will see what else is available. Annoying as I fancy a change from my S9+!

For anyone interested in a follow up to all my S20+ rambling. I ended up with an iPhone 11 Pro.

Miss the glorious 120hz screen and Android generally given Apple's paternalistic approach (I mean you can't even 'select all' when you're editing text, or show the battery level percentage for heaven's sake).

However, when it comes to the camera it's like comparing an Asguard Mothership to a Goa'uld Ha'tak vessel (I hope someone got that). The iPhone absolutely blows it out the water. Saturation is faithfull, post processing sharpness is minimal, far more detail generally, contrast is balanced and it doesn't mash your dog's face into a blurry smothered mess. The images basically have a far more natural look to them where as the S20+ made it look like someone had Instagrammed the hell out of every single photo.

Anyway I'm happy now. May move back to Samsung if they learn from the burgeoning critical reviews slating their aggressive image processing... for now, good riddance!

Quoted for the Stargate reference.

I keep on getting tempted to move over to an iPhone to try it out, but there's a few things that make in unpalatable at the moment for me. (Default apps, Google Photos not syncing in background etc).

I may try the next iteration just to see if I could live with it. I do like I'll prefer Android, but variety is the spice of life and all :)

Enjoy the battery as well, it’s great on the 11 Pro.

What SoT times do iPhones get? I hear a lot that the battery is pretty decent, just don't know if I could make the jump.

Internet points for the SG reference :D.

What SoT times do iPhones get?

I used to get a nailed on 6 hours on my XS, so I expect the 11 Pro will go to 7.5 and the Max hit 8 or 9 easily enough.

What isn't always mentioned is the standby drain. Put an Android down for half a day and the battery will have dropped a few percent doing nothing. Do the same on an iPhone and the battery percentage will be exactly where you left it.
