You come across as a Samsung shill because you're so determined to justify them offering some customers an inferior product. Nobody is surprised that companies will do anything possible to maximise their profits. It's obvious. However it's the right thing to complain about it when it leads to paying the same price for what is undeniably an inferior product at the same price.

You misunderstand me then. I'm trying to explain they're not offering people an inferior product, it's that they're being forced to offer a superior product. It's that simple.

Like if all other engines than Ferrari were banned in Italy people would be complaining we were being forced to buy inferior cars here because ford put Ferrari engines in the Focus in Italy.

I'm not a shill, I'm trying to change perspective, I've said a few times in here that if you don't like it buy something else but there's no sense in being offended about it because it's just a quirk of some regions and rather than not sell premium phones at all there they choose snapdragon. If they didn't HAVE to then they wouldn't and that's just the way it is. No amount of huffing and puffing about it will ever change that.

The Exynos has been reported to be a generation behind the SD845 performance wise and god knows how far behind the A13 - it’s a poor show from Samsung and the price needs to reflect this-m - I appreciate them using their own chips but at least ensure they are near on equal to the flagship competitors when charging £1400 top end. Especially considering the OP8+ has already proven in bench marks to blow even the SD S20 out of the water, never mind the Exynos. If you want a Samsung phone in this country with a Warranty then there’s really no other choice. Battery and performance are no where equal to the SD version - we have this every year with Samsung devices.

I'm pretty sure aggregate review scores would be lower too if there weren't a Snapdragon version, just handy for Samsung that the superior version is being sold in a market that has some of the biggest media outlets pumping out those reviews.

Whats even more simple is that samsung have had years to improve their socs, and they could have included that carrier support for the other regions, then sold it worldwide and make it a non issue. Yes it would have cost billions to develop the soc and integrate the carrier support but the long term goal would be to make them billions back and then some. But there is a reason they havent. I have stated before i was hasty and let the upgrade itch drive my purchase before seeing reviews and realising the diffrences between socs seems massive this time round, and yet the price keeps going up for us uk buyers. That seems to be the big gripe people have this time round, the peformance difference has always been there between exynos and snapdragon, and i knew about it when purchasing my note 9, but the note 9 to me was a great phone and i am not seeing it with the S20. I'm not a fanboy of any manufacturer, but i have bought a lot of samsung hardware / phones over the years and i just feel this is too big of an issue now and it will be my last exynos purhcase unless things change, or they change soc.

But it will never happen because 90% of phone buyers are not aware of the differences, or dont care as they are general users and wont notice the difference in normal day to day use (facebook, whatsapp etc). Thats what samsung rely on, as only a minority kick up a fuss about it, but slowly but surely that minority does seem to be getting bigger and with the S20 that voice is being heard a lot more now.

I'm not ranting, im just expressing my opinion, i bought the phone, i am very dissapointed in it considering the price point and i have learnt my lesson now and i will unlikely buy samsung again if the exynos is still produced in future iterations, with massively differences in performance and / or battery life compared to other socs offered in the same phone in other regions.

It all just reads so entitled, buy something else?

And seriously "power users" good for you, you're like 1% of the market, it's the exact same reason people bleating about stock android lost the argument, nobody cares. Almost nobody cares at least.

Again, Samsung aren't offering an inferior product, they're being forced to offer a superior one.. Again think like there was a market where all phones had to offer copy/paste? Then Apple would have offered it on the smallest amount of phones they could back when that was some technological leap they'd yet to make.

I'm no Samsung shill, I get there are better products out there, right now I'm being a contrarian and asking why you're even bothering getting het up about this, it happens. Move on!

To be honest I'd probably be what Samsung consider an actual power user, I have a phone locked down with knox that I used for work, I can empty my battery 3 times a day at a push. I couldn't care less there's a slight gfx improvement elsewhere, it's not used for gaming (much) so things like 45w charging are way way more important to me.

Sounds like somebody else is entitled and ranting.

Good for you that you empty your battery 3 times a day, if you bought an sd865 phone it may be twice a day :D

Take a chill pill man, its a forum and we are expressing our opinions based on something we have bought and feel a bit hard done by. That is all, I am not het up about it.

I've said multiple times I wish I had bought something else but I didn't and if I want to buy something else further down the line I will. You disagree with me fair enough. I think your wrong too. Nothing wrong with that.

The screen, design and features are still outstanding really on the S20 range - but One Plus are coming after Samsung hard at most probably a cheaper price point.

The base S20 has the enormous distinction of being a truly one-handed device. There'll be no OP8 to challenge it on that front, which is a shame.

Agreed. If the camera setup and image processing wasn't so appalling I wouldn't have sent mine back for sure.

So I have the ultra as I couldn’t cancel my EE pre-order and I’m struggling to make a decision between the ultra and my iPhone 11 Pro Max despite the Exynos and camera - it is incredibly beautiful and the screen is fantastic.

I had a note 9 before buying the s20+.

My advice is dont, I'm regretting it now.

The only thing noticeably better is the screen/120hz but as stated before the exynos battery hit is significant and would be a different story if it was a snapdragon 865.

If you can source it cheaply and your happy to take that battery hit then fine, if its full price then I'd say no.

I was lucky and got it for 600 quid after trade in and a quidco offer at the time, but i still wish I waited to see what the oneplus8 offered as I'm disappointed in this. I'm a long term samsung user too and have had most of their flagship phones over the years.

I can't see the note 20 being much different tbh, they will probably still use exynos etc and that's where the biggest problem lies it seems.

We are getting an inferior product compared to the rest of the world and it needs to change.

my battery is a mess now. 2hrs 30 SOT. The camera on the note 9 still takes far better photos than most of my friends iPhones.

I do actually use the s-pen most days though. So although I need a new phone I’m at pains to leave a note.

As I live in UK I had the exynos version of the s20+. Performance, battery life and camera were terrible not to mention the overheating, so I returned the phone. I then got the snapdragon s20+ and the difference is night and day. You see an instant improvement in performance and battery over the exynos version. No overheating. In the snapdragon s20+ they use Sony sensor and not the Isocell one found in the exynos phone. The photos taken with Sony sensor are sharper with more realistic colours.

why do Samsung force the exynos versions on us in Europe. I am glad I was able to get the snapdragon variant it a far better phone than the crappy version they want us to buy here. No wonder they are not using the exynos chip in their home market of South Korea, that speaks volumes

Hi is there an article referring to the different camera sensors i could read about, and is that the same for the ultra camera ?

Wondamobile. Based in Hong Kong. I ordered it on a Wednesday and got it 7 days later.

Do you notice anything different on the SD version over the Exynos version that should be there?

I use Samsung pay, but understand this is missing, is there an alternative, google pay or something, is it basically the same?

I also use the express cards like Oyster card on TFL in london but heard it isn’t an option as it is linked to Samgung pay.

Does Wifi calling and VoLTE work?

Thanks.

I’ve read they also don’t support 5G here in the UK - is that correct?

Good question. WiFi calling and volte all good. Wondamobile did make it clear that Samsung pay would not work. So no good for you. I don’t use it so it didn’t bother me. I heard 5G does work. UK uses N78 band and this phone supports that band. we don’t have it yet where I live so I cannot confirm yet
