Even without the pandemic - it was very risky trying to push a $1400 phone on the market - especially something this mediocre. They got greedy and complacent.

They was far to late to stop what they had planned for the samy s20 ultra. production was already underway ? And tbh there will always be people who want the latest and greatest even at silly prices, i am one of them suckers tbh. And you only have to look at pc graphics cards/cpus prices of hifi equipment and even headphones ect lol.

Perhaps - I just think they have lost the plot, the cheapest S20 costs as much as last year's top end S10+ (ignoring 5G version). And now there is a +$200 between the S10+ and S20+, what'e even worse is that these phones don't hold onto their value nearly as well as an iPhone :p. It's good that they have most price points covered but the high end has all got a bit silly and I think consumers might catch on quick with the current climate.

S10e - $749
S10 - $899
S10+ - $999
S10 5G - $1299

S20 - $999
S20+ - $1,199/$1,299
S20 Ultra - $1,399/$1,499

There's obviously evidence somewhere in marketing that suggests a phone priced at x amount and then reduced regularly sells better or makes more profit than a phone permanently priced at x minus 20 percent.

Personally I think it's a terrible way to get customer loyalty. Apple just don't reduce the price of their phones and they're doing okay. Maybe Samsung should knock 20% off their prices and that's the RRP. I know I am not every customer, but I'd be far more likely to buy a phone that is priced fairly (whatever that is) and not reduced heavily every couple of months.

At least with Apple you know you have far more years of software support and better resale values.

All the Android manufacturers who think they can or should match Apple for price are making a mistake i believe. Few brands in any sector command the loyalty of Apple. Given that won't be going away, the only way to compete is on price. Cold hard cash is the best way to combat loyalty.

And can you imagine a set of S-Wheels for the galaxy tab s6 priced at £699? Apple has been rightly laughed at for their mac castors but I bet they sell a few.

Agreed, because those wheels will look good to clients visiting the design studio. Apple is a high end electronic goods fashion company. Up there with LV.

All praise to apple who want to kill off right to repair. just imagine if apple has its way, you wont be able to have a battery replaced "that will be £300 please" Accidentaly dropped your phone back is smashed oh dear"apple rubbing there hands together"that will be £300 please" instead of going to a phone repair shop and getting it done for half that cost. Apple does not want phone shops to be able to get spare parts to fix mobile phones. Not to mention the "genious bars" of what ever they are called are well known for ripping people of jsut look at what apple does to people who need simple repairs yet say"sorry this cant be repaired" yet they take there devices to non apple shops and bam the repair costs say £200 and saved them well over a thousand pounds

In fact i am pretty sure if this right to repair and the big companies loose i am pretty sure i have read that all phone companies not just apple would have to redesign there phones so for example a user could replace there own battery ect.

I do not hate apple i just hate what they stand for and what they are trying to do. i love there phones they are good. two member sin my household have them. there resale value is also very good mainly because i think like someone has already said they do not release phones then a month or two later drop by say 20%. I have had apple phones admittedly not new ones i think the last one i had was a 7(temp). Yet i had all of them up to that point and a few others like htc. i personally have had bad experiences in apple shops, for one they are so snobbish.

A lot of the higher end phones are unable to be repaired easily outside of official channels though, the S series are sealed so you break the warranty when you open them up.

I think you'll find it's about £550 to replace the back glass (no kidding).

Yea i was trying to make examples. to be fair apple has always been marketed to the well off and the androids to the not so well off

That is not strictly true they can be repaired but indeed void your warranty. having said that if the consumers win the right to repair that maybe a thing of the past. big companies including apple samsung will be made to sell replacement parts to repair shops, which will bring down the price of repairs guaranteed original parts. its really better for everyone.

Apple Sansung and a lot of other big companies do not want this if you drop and break your phone, laptop or tablet they do nto want you to repair it they just want you to buy a new one.

This Louis Rossmann has done a fair few videos on how bad apple are on the repair side of things. They often want to sell you replacement parts which are not at all needed for very high prices. Here is one such video.
