**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S22 Family Thread ****

I'm a little late to the party with the S22 series.
Upgrade time came for me and my old trusty Note 10+ was in a perfectly functional but sorry state. I decided to retire it to backup phone status. I went with the S22 Ultra in the end, in Phantom black and 512GB flavour. Mostly due to it being the only Phantom Black option in stock for immediate dispatch with Three. the 128/256 options were would have meant 2-4 week wait and while the plan was for the 256 variant, I'm too impatient.

Not disappointed at all, Not a huge step up from my old Note 10+. However, everything seems smoother, refined and enhanced. Very smooth transition to the new phone. Familiar yet fresh. I always found the Note 10 to be tricky to hold when it was bare (no case) as it was a little too thin, the slightly thicker chassis is much much more comfortable to hold. I was a little concerned by some reports of battery life not being enough for full day of steady use, but so far havnt had any issues or felt battery life anxiety, I can get through normal working day with average use without having to worry.
Very happy so far!

The Google Drive backups for Whatsapp seems to be working now, just did a manual backup and it's steadily climbing past 1.5GB uploaded.

Looking forward to the UK getting the OneUI 5 beta though too, so far only USA/Germany etc have it.

So what should we set the Ram Plus to to get best performance & less app closures?

Mine is set to 4GB default, not really seen a need to up it although might give it a go.

Already signed into the members app ready for the invite :D

I've had a play with ram plus but haven't noticed any difference. I think the 256+ models have got enough cache at default for my needs. I've not noticed the 22 ultra shutting any apps down to make more room for others.

Decided to take the plunge and ordered a 256GB, green, ultra variant today. 55GB pm contract on O2 for £1077 all in if anyone else is looking. It seemed good to me based on the recent three deal. Works out about 100 more totaly but I wanted the extra ram, not to be on three and crucially lower monthly cost given RPI price increases.

S10 I'm coming from is still fine but I do want the zoom option to round out the camera, which is my main requirement in a phone these days. Hopefully this should tie me over for a long while.

Never had any protection on my previous phones but I'm considering something this time. Maybe I'll grab a cheap case to see how I feel about the extra bulk it adds before finding something nicer for the long term.

It's a massive upgrade from an S10 for the camera side of things, helps the battery and performance is excellent too.
Glad to hear. Not sure I'll need the 100x zoom but 10x optical is what sold the phone to me. Battery wise my S10 is holding out ok, manages a day reasonably well with my usage but some extra juice will be welcome on long days out and about.

Looking at reviews of the normal S22 the battery life seems to be a negative but surely it can't be that bad with the optimisation. I play simple games and mostly Wild Rift with web browsing and some social media. Will it last a day?
I have a Poco F3 for comparison and that lasts a day sometimes with 40% left. It's.screen on time is at 7.5.hours and I'm on 27% battery at the moment. That's from 5:30am this morning.
I would stick a wireless charger on my desk at work and take a small power bank as that can live in the kids change bag lol.
My previous phone was an LG G7+ and that lasted the same as this F3, which is huge in the hand too. Migdet fingers here.

My bro in law got the S22 same time I got the Ultra, he gets better battery than the S21 he had before it.

I've been using wired tethering and wireless hotspot at the same time today because VM is having planned maintenance so my home connection is down until 3pm. Wired tether to my PC and hotspot to my work laptop as WFH. I am able to get 270Mbps on speed test from the P with 4G only enabled. Quite impressed with this, response time from websites etc feels no different to normal broadband either. Quite impressed with the power considering both means of tether are being used with a sustained VPN connection on the work laptop.

I have the Samsung S22, it won't last a day of heavy use where you are out all day on mobile data, taking lots of pics and videos, bit of google maps and whatsapp etc (no gaming).

It has died on me by 8-9pm more times than not in these use cases.

Have they just removed the S22 Ultra from the upgrade programme? I was planning on buying it using the upgrade programme but the option has vanished today.

I guess they save that purchasing method for their new line up, which is now the flip/fold.

The software improvements to the camera are quite remarkable. I suspect this device is a peeping Tom's best friend. Here is a recent zoom I had a play with which was taken through a window without opening it.

Insane^!

Just seen a 512GB S22U refurb go for £917 in very good condition, not bad at all.

Selling my Poco F3 to CEX would bring that to just under £800, once it's nearer £700 - might bite the bullet.

I plan to sell mine for around £700 soon, I just got the Fold 4 but mine is only 256GB
