*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Goldfinger, an S5 follow on ROM from Goldeneye. Why haven't Samsung released 4.4.4 for the S4? I keep seeing the GE/GF developer mentioning it as he is eager to incorporate into his ROMs.

I had to take my S4 apart tonight. I noticed my phone had been quiet for a while, went to look at it and it was off and wouldn't turn on. Pulled the battery out, turned it on, and 3 seconds later it turned off again.

Tried my spare battery thinking that it'd just died, but had exactly the same problem. It wasn't until I removed the battery again and put it back in and it switched on by itself, I realised the power button must be stuck on!

So stripped it down, which is a very easy job actually. Got a cotton bud soaked with ArctiClean and soaked the little switch. Put it back together and it seems perfect now!

Hopefully nothing else will go wrong with it, still 6 months before my upgrade!

Just had to do the same again, strip down and clean the power button out. Contract isn't out until like March next year, really hoping it can keep going until then, it's been a great phone! :(

Nice! Have Samsung fully released 4.4.4 - I noticed the ROM maker for Goldfinger has recently mentioned Samsung needing to hurry up and do so.

Despite having issues with this phone (mainly my doing through ROM switching - keeps me on my toes ;)), it is easily my favourite phone so far (my mighty N82 has been knocked off its perch).

Echoe 39.1 for me.. 4.4.2, S5 edition.. Tempted to try his 5.0 Google edition, but it is apparently suffering with random reboots and bigger than usual battery usage..Perhaps in the new year..

I have now been running Echoe Lollipop V6.1 for a few days and I am really impressed, no reboots, everything seems to work and I really like Android 5.

It is Google Edition, so no TouchWiz, but thats not a bad thing I supposed. :-D It brings new life to the S4, thats for sure.

Would people recommend Lollipop now then? I'm at the point where my phone is still on stock firmware from when I got it in May 2013, rooted it but never updated, its started getting slower but i have no real knowlege on loading on custom roms, either be it the 39.1 version or the Android 5 one, I shouldn't have any issues with the phone running it should I?

Does any one have problems with their battery? I have posted about this several times; when using Omega I would normally get 4-5 hours of screen on time. In recent months I have been using Goldfinger and more recently Goldeneye. My battery has been atrocious, played with different kernels with little effect. Yesterday I managed to use 40-50% in under 1.5 hours, last night I unplugged the phone fully charged (probably around 3am) and it had lost 9% by 6am. Finally, when it gets low it drops even faster - probably faster than 1% per minute when in use. Various iterations of Goldeneye seem to magnify the problem.

I now wonder if it's the battery rather than the ROM/kernel. Trying to source a new battery from Amazon but they all seem fake, with exception of the Anker i9505 battery.

EDIT - Just installed Echoe 6.1 - liking the initial setup, much better than the previous KK/TW setup.

Just installed JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1.

Completely new lease of life for my S4. I need to stick with it till March\May (depending on if I switch networks) and Lollipop is going to make that much easier.

I think this has swung me on going stock Android for my next phone too. God Touchwiz is soooooo bad.

I guess I'm one of the few people who like it :p. Anyways its been reported that touchwiz on the S6 will be much more akin to stock android.

Its not that I dislike it, it was fine.. But once you use stock you realize how little extra it offers - I dont miss anything about it (so far anyway).. Its just bloating a perfectly good system.

I preferred my Note and s4 to my nexus 4, I don't get why people like stock so much or talk about tw lag I don't get lag, I've presumed it was a thing gamers noticed tbh, often the new iteration of android has bugs which I hated on the nexus 4, my nexus 7 was unusable when it got lollipop.

It's not just the lag and unresponsiveness. It's messiness of the UI. And my S4 had been hammering the battery till I installed basically stock lollipop. I've even got EQ settings and a volume boost so my music is louder and sounds better.

There is nothing decent about Samsung software on the S4.
