*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

My damn alarm didn't go off this morning. Most likely due to lollipop update yesterday. I double checked it was set too.

Luckily my cat George is backup as he wants his breakfast around the same time.

Happened to me Monday luckily my kid got me up at 7.20! I haven't bothered with lollipop though, my screen has started to flicker before turning off too, I've had it nearly 2 years:rolleyes:

So what's the general consensus on Lollipop? My update just popped up but it requires more space than I have free to install. Worth bothering with do you think? I don't have any problems with my S4 although I wish the battery would last a wee bit longer.

Just a random one, I've had my S4 2 years now, rooted it about 3 months in so still on 4.2.2 or something 4.2.*, if I want to go to the latest version, not worried about custom roms right now, not sure I'd want to or not, is it just a case of plugging into the PC and restore/update via KIES?

I'm assuming as it is universally unlocked (Bought sim free from Amazon) it'll stay that way after an update?

Upgraded after deleting some stuff. Swiftkey doesn't work and just crashes. No update available that I can see either. Back to the Stock Samsung KB and it's awful.

What I did recently was follow an online guide which flashed stock firmware back to the device (lollipop, obtained from sammobile) using Odin

That didn't keep my root though I don't think, I was trying to sell the phone though so that didn't bother me

Not sure I'm allowed to link to it, but google for "flashing stock firmware to galaxy s4" and you'll find it :)

Thanks :)

I'm not fussed about root, I don't think I really used it to it's potential like I thought I might, so just want a stock, clean ROM that'll be kinde rto my battery than 2 year old firmware, that & I just need a refresh, phone has gone too slow!

so i managed to drop my phone on the one bit of stone floor in our house and crack the screen - its not too bad but want to get it replaced.

Anyone recommend a mail order place that'll do it?

I dropped/placed my laptop at work directly on my phone and cracked the screen. Ordered a £10 replacement screen from rainforest and going to have a go at replacing it myself.

Also has anybody updated to lollipop? I have recently and whatsapp is incredibly laggy since doing so. To the point of typing a text takes about 3 seconds to register. Anybody else notice this?

I accepted lollipop a couple of days ago, did a factory reset before and my s4 is very fast I've got zero problems with it even my bat seems better.

Tbh I'm quite surprised as my nexus 7 was wrecked by lp when it first came out but so far very positive experience here.

Ho hum. Still on 4.4.2 on EE at the moment. Can't Flash it as it's a work provided phone. Guess i will have to wait until they pull their finger out and make it available. Have lollipop on my z3 tablet and is very nice

Ironed out all the lollipop issues now so happy again.

To be honest, I don't think any of the new phones are a particularly big leap over the s4.

I no longer feel the need to have the latest phone every year so will be sticking with the s4 until something worthy of upgrading to finally appears :)

I unrooted today, thinking it would let me update to Lollipop, still says custom on my status page so I guess I have triggered the efuse and can't use the system update facility.

Downloaded the GT-I9505 firmware from sammobile, have backed up all contacts, media etc.. to SD card, must have gone to a dodgy site for Odin as installing it just ran up a load of spyware and wiped all settings and plugins from chrome on PC, oops!

Guessing I just need to get a proper Odin, boot with power, home and volume down, apply the image via the PDA box and apply it, then boot with volume up,home and power held in and then set it to format?

Never done this before so excuse any dumbness, just don't want to brick the phone or cause myself any more issues, phone has been on 4.4.2 for 2 years now and NEEDS a wipe, so slow right now!!

Using odin is pretty simple

Yes efuse is tripped so not OTA's form now on.

IMO, since you already rooted, you should run a custom rom based on stock but minus the bloatware.
