*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Clue - you won't like it if you don't already on 4.4.

Performance will be better though so you have that.

currently running JFTE-GPE but the last update doesn't seem all that stable (although they've just pushed out 20150315) - trying to work out if its worth going back to stock...

Reviews of the s6 Lollipop seemed to suggest they'd dropped a load of the bloat and touchwiz so was wondering if it had followed through to the s4 version.

Recently had one of these phones bought for me

Anyway, when I pick the phone up sometimes the screen comes on without me pressing owt, is this a feature or something? It doesn't always happen

Remind me what the camera on Echoe is like? I detested the camera on GPE, the only thing I really liked about TW was the camera.

I have just had my S4 fixed, the have sent a new unit. No doubt it has the new bootloader :( - how do I confirm?

Its just the normal original TW camera as far as I know.

If you boot into download mode and there is a line with knox on it then you have the new one, I don't think it really matters you'll just trip the flag to say you installed a custom rom.

My s4 just updated to lollipop, seems OK so far but still loads of bloatware :(

Really considering flashing to a GPE ROM. Is it easy enough? What are the pros and cons?

Thinking of sticking with the s4 for another year as all the new phones are hugely underwhelming and massively overpriced.

A little information here :)

A few things with GPE; I really didn't like camera (it gives you the choice of which iteration you want but all have some con), the pictures that came out were shocking - it struggled to even read a barcode. A few Lollipop aspects that people haven't warmed to like the new notifications. A memory leak which meant by browser would have to reload tabs within seconds of changing apps.

The ROM itself is great though and a joy to use, plus the OTA updates are useful and easy.

Its zero bloat but you loose everything samsung such as the camera (You just get the stock google one which is pants in comparison) and SHealth etc. Its fairly easy to flash a custom recovery and then the GPE rom.

I linked the debloater script above which is runable from CWM and that would be the better thing to do imo (Take a backup first).

I must have been running Lollipop for almost two months now via a ROM. The day I get my GS4 replaced, the update appears. Interested to see how TW Lollipop compared to GPE.

EDIT - already found an annoying bug. It keeps saying "an application requires an update for google play services", despite it being up to date. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the update, followed by a reboot with no luck yet.

ahh since I got my 360 I usually keep the phone on silent at work but with the updte when I leave the phone on silent it mutes the notifications on the 360 as well. Only way I can get it working is if I set the phone to vibrate.

any solutions to this yet ?????

Worked out what it was. The phone had Smart Alert set to on as default and would vibrate/turn screen on if I had a new text waiting to be read. All new to me this coming from a Galaxy S1 :p

My damn alarm didn't go off this morning. Most likely due to lollipop update yesterday. I double checked it was set too.

Luckily my cat George is backup as he wants his breakfast around the same time.

Lollipop is nice, but the BBC News app doesnt like it. No matter what you select it goes to the main story tab.

Uninstalled for now until they fix it.

I swear this iteration (official OTA) of me using Lollipop has confirmed my suspicions about the battery life (I have had ongoing battery issues, using Lollipop via ROMs etc.). It's a brand new S4 with new battery but by the looks of it I will be very lucky to get 3 hours screen on time.
