**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Anyone got any tips for the finger print reader on this thing? Seems very hit and miss.

I was struggling with it, but it's much better now I've found out you can register the same finger twice. So I now have both thumbs, twice, at different angles.

Put the phone down, start the process, and pick it up as if grabbing it to open the phone. Use this 'angle' as one finger print, then do it again as if you are holding the phone and opening it, and use this as the other print.

Well, that's assuming you're a thumber any way : p

I originally had two thumbs and two index fingers registered, but found the index fingers just awkward to use.

What's wrong with the evo+ for £49? Or the SanDisk 128GB ultra?

Apart from the speed difference, which may or may not be taken advantage of by the phone, the Samsung Pro range have additional features that I'm not sure are all included on the Evo range, e.g magnetic field protection and waterproofing, plus in theory they use slightly higher quality MLC memory that might make it a bit more robust in the longer-term.

I'm currently using the 128GB Sandisk Ultra that I picked up for £35 but would be happy to pay a bit more for the Samsung Pro+.

The SanDisk Ultra offers those same features. You’re paying more for the extra speed, something which no phone makes use of. 4K video recording requires a Class 10 card at most anyway.

The only real benefit is if you’re constantly taking the mSD card out of the phone and using it to write data to it from a PC via the a card reader. Otherwise save your money and put it to better use.

That is complete and utter nonsense.

Phones do measure it differently but Samsung phones are known for having rubbish signal. I thought they may have improved it with the S7 but alas, no.

Are they? I see no difference in signal over the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z5, or Moto G.

Well, had my S7 Edge since Thursday, and loving it so far. Very smooth in everything, especially impressed with the camera - amazing low-light performance! TBH, only discovered this ability as the flash was set to Off by default
Two quirks that I am flummoxed by, though, and wondering if anyone can shed some light:

1) Often, seemingly randomly, when pressing the (physical) Home key, rather than being taken to home screen I get a pop-up from the bottom of the screen asking which Launcher I want to use (Touchwiz or Easy Touchwiz).......just want to go to home screen!
2) Have been in a few bad signal places over the weekend and the lockscreen shows 'Emergency Calls Only', but when the phone is unlocked I can see anywhere between 2 and 4 bars, and these bars change.....trying to place a call gets an error message confirming that indeed not in coverage!

Any thoughts?

Really? My S7 is spot on and pretty much instant.
Yeah think it's because of the angles my thumbs are at when holding the phone.

Thanks I'll try that

Edge pre order Brodit holder FYI
:)

Hooray! Good find, thanks, had emailed Brodit a few times trying to find out when they would be available. I was hoping that they would do one accommodating a case though. Had to take my HTC one in and out of its case every time I got in to the car, ruined the cases quite quickly.

You'll notice it mostly in areas of poor signal. My S7 is on no service most of the time here whereas my 6P is on two bars of 4G or full bars of EDGE.

Will keep an eye on that but so far I've been travelling around and not noticed any difference!

no issues at all its instant and hardly ever misses much faster then the s6 edge, i mainly use my thumb one handed to unlock, so i registered the same thumb 4 times,

It always say emergency calls only on the lock screen if you fail to unlock it properly. Pop in your code/fingerprint and it is fine.

Hi buddy, point 2; the phone will display network from over network providers for emergency calls only. you'll notice there's no data symbol in this more when showing emergency calls only but signal bars

Thanks, but this is not the case for me. It says Emergency Calls on the lockscreen (and I know the signal is bad/not present) and yet when I unlock the phone I can see signal bars.....but trying to make a call tells me no network coverage (and OpenSignal app confirms no signal) :( Essentially, the lockscreen is 'telling the truth' yet the signal bars sometimes remain

Ahhh, that might explain it......OpenSignal told me that there was O2 & Vodafone coverage, not 3 (me) and EE.....haven't noticed that on previous phones

On point 1....Google showed similar issues on earlier Samsung phones (s4, Note3) and seemingly an update to Google Search caused same issue....I just checked my Application defaults, and found Ladbrokes(?!) as one of the options. Uninstalled the Ladbrokes app, forced the Touchwiz Home as default, then reinstalled the Ladbrokes app (sideload).....and looks like it might be fixed - huzzah!
