**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Well I guess we didn't read the same articles, I saw just north of 8hrs for the S8. Maybe give it a couple of days.

If it picks up to 8 hours I'll be more than happy. Admittedly I've got AOD active, which will have knocked 7pc off my battery so far, going on reports of it using 1pc per hour. It's such a useful feature that I don't want to turn it off, since it covers up the failings of the fingerprint scanner (most of the time I have to unlock my phone it's only to check the time)

Thinking about returning mine. You have 14 days to return it right no questions asked with carphone warehouse? I adore the phone but the left side of the screen has the red tint and the right side of the screen doesn't so its a little annoying when looking on white webpages to constantly see that. I don't see how a software fix is going to fix a tiny that's on one side of the screen only.

Isn't that only if you purchase online? I bought mine from CPW decided I no longer want it and will have to sell, yet can't return it because I bought in store ( annoyingly I purchased online first but they rejected it based on my alternative delivery address )

Again it all just depends on what apps you use...Pokemon Go (I know I know) absolutely kills the iPhone 7 yet the S8 handles it a lot better. Similarly I've found the drain while listening to music through the iPhone speakers awful for some reason, compare that to the S8 I find it much better :)

Horses for courses.
I guess so, varies case by case depending on usage. 4000mah batteries should be common within a couple of years so that should help.

Mine was purchased over the phone. When I called them they said 14 days.

Can't believe they aren't already mate. But I guess for this release Samsung couldn't risk going bigger than the 3000mah on the S8 due to the Note fiasco. The S9 could be really really special I reckon.

Anyone tried their old s7 wireless charger yet? Does it work on the s8?

I've got one here that i got for the s6 edge only to find out it didn't support fast charging wirelessly. So I've tried the s8 on it and when connected the s8 doesn't say fast charging.

So just trying to work out does it just not work with the old version of the fast charger or have I bought a duff one off the bay .

After all the reviews and having a hands on with both the S8 and S8+, for the first time since the S2 I am not interested in upgrading to the latest and greatest.

Now granted I am using the S7E, they've played it VERY safe with the S8 (which I don't blame them for after the Note 7 fiasco), but I pick up my S7 Edge and still enjoy it as much as I did from 1 year ago.

The S8 just does not appear to do anything better than the S7 to warrant splashing £600+ for.

It's still a great device though and I can understand an upgrade from the S6 era but I'lll happily stick with my S7 Edge with no regrets about going for the S8 range.

Interested to see what the Note 8 will bring to the table or if that will be a safe approach too.

Picture of the box and charger itself?

A genuine Samsung one will only fast charge via the Samsung adaptive fast charging adapter. The charger pad itself is Qi, so will charge any device that supports Qi, but will only fast wireless charge devices that support fast wireless charging (only the LG G6 and newer Samsung flagships).

Mine doesn't work as a fast charger either. Worked perfectly with my S7. It appears that only the expensive Samsung Wireless Convertible Charger is going to work as a fast wireless charger. There's a thread about the issue here. I bought an Aukey fast wireless charger and it fast charged for 30 seconds then stopped. Sent it back. I'm trying an Anker one tomorrow - if that doesn't work I'm going to have to splash out £60 on the Samsung one. One hell of a rip-off though.

I'll confirm soon as I have Choetech Samsung and Belkin fast chargers. They all work in fast mode with specific wall adapters.

The new Samsung one has exactly the same specs as the existing Samsung ones, so I can't believe that the new convertible stand does something different. It still outputs 9V 1.67A, exactly the same as all other fast wireless pads from decent third party brands.

The only time I experienced charging paused on the S7 edge was when I used a standard QC2.0 Anker/Aukey wall adapter instead of the Samsung adapter.

I would not buy the new Samsung one for £60 right now. Wait a few months, it will be half that, I'm 100% sure, because both previous fast wireless chargers were in exactly the same situation.

My iPhone 6s+ did over 9 hours SoT out of the box with the same usage pattern. I thought android devices were meant to have caught up with iOS in terms of efficiency.

How did you measure SoT on your iPhone? AFAIK, iPhone gives you 'usage' which is not the same as Android SoT as it includes background refresh, music playing and any sort of activity that wakes the phone from standby.

On a related note...

I used my S6 Edge wireless charger overnight last night - as I wasn't bothered about the speed and I assume it is healthier for the battery to charge it slowly? It will have plenty of time overnight so no point really fast charging.

Question though is... (will test when I'm home if I remember) - Using the official wall adapter, will a QC 2.0 compatible MICRO USB cable allow fast charge when using the little adapter in the box? Could then save me moving the bed to change wires if I can just leave it in the wireless charger, then move remove it (and plug the adapter on) then fast charge with the same cable if I ever need to

Check the below images i uploaded to one drive, one shows pink screen tint, not sure anyone can see it,but it's there, along with green as well! And the battery life is pretty shocking I'll see how it is tomorrow now i turned off scanning of nearby devices, NFC and auto sync.

Can't see the colour problems on your pics - I am colourblind though lol... had to get family members to check my device for me haha

Anyway, with regards to battery something there doesn't seem right...

By chance as I just checked mine it is actually on 2h26m screen on time also.. Off charge for 11 hours and I am on 54%

Am I missing out on much by setting default image size in the camera to 16:9 (9.1M) - 4032x2268 vs 4:3 (12M) 4032x3024??

16:9 is a more traditional shape image, but not sure on the quality impact? Can't remember what my S6 Edge had

Sent an email to Samsung to get the official response on this. And in hope/desperation they have pity on me and offer a replacement charging pad if that's the issue.

From everything I've read, nothing today comes close to an iPhone 7 in terms of battery life but if I could read it so could anyone else ;)

I can confirm that the iPhone 7 Plus has absolutely amazing battery life. I just cannot kill it in a day no matter how hard I try/how antisocial I am. I've also never had a phone that is as buttery smooth under all conditions.

I'm not expecting the S8+ to beat it in these departments, but I hope I'm pleasantly suprised. My iPhone 7 Plus certainly looks like a dinosaur in comparison, design-wise. Am I the only one who will be going case-less, or are there other brave/stupid/careful people out there?
