**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I've used nothing but 3rd party sites for several years now and not had a single issue, I always just take out a new contract. You will receive a new SIM with the handset with a new mobile number, in your case it would be a new EE sim. You then ring EE and tell them you want to carry your old number over to your new SIM, you give them both numbers, and it should be as simple as that. That's all I've ever needed to do in the past. PAC code is not required since you're not changing networks.
Awesome will place the order today ;)

nice, is there's an difference in the charging times between cable fast charge and wireless fast charge ?

I've no idea to be honest; I probably won't use the fast charger to charge most of the time because I typically only charge overnight, but I said on the last page I'd update if it worked for fast charging :p

Bought a set of Earphones Plus branded foam tips for the headphones, £5.99 for 6 pairs of tips, to fit 4.4mm to 5.4mm (they fit perfectly, I think the earphones have a 5.0mm fitment) and they're like a whole new pair of earphones.

If anyone else was disappointed with the supplied '$99' earphones as I was, I highly recommend binning off the silicon crap they come with and putting a cheap set of foam buds on them, totally transformed. Still not on par with the Super.Fi 5s but I was a cheapskate when i bought those and they don't have in-line controls, so these supplied buds may well now become my out and about / take to work headphones and the Super.Fi 5s can be retired to home listening.

:) When you get a chance you can just plug it in and it'll say something like 1h 23m to fully charge. Do that for each and see if the estimated time is different.

Wireless fast charge is slower for sure. Probably 30 mins more over a full charge

I've also got a really thin case from elago for a tenner. If someone wants something really thin, it's worth a look as it's about 0.5mm thick. Makes the fingerprint sensor a little easier to find.

Interesting discovery that many others probably realised from older phones - having put a thin metal plate into the spigen case so it will clamp to the magnetic car mount, the wireless charger no longer works! Booooooo

edit - reading around suggests the NFC shares the Qi charging coil, so this also implies that the metal plate will prevent NFC working, so I won't be able to use Android Pay anymore :(

My GF had here S8 (non-plus) arrive from Samsung this week. I've had a look at it and it's the first phone I've liked physically that may tempt me away from my Nexus 6, but damn that Bixby button is annoying. Is there any way to reprogram it?

The 12M sensor is 4:3 ratio, so if you want to change the ratio to 16:9 the image is just being cropped - quality shouldn't be affected.

I prefer 16:9 as well, but to be honest you may as well leave it at the full 12M and crop it yourself.

Cropping yourself comes with the added benefit you can crop to 3:2 which is normal photo aspect of you wanted to print and frame anything.
Ahhh okay... I think I misunderstood last night... So me changing it to 16:9 isn't actually giving me any more of a "wider" shot... It's just giving that illusion of course, right?

A colleague found that his nfc payments still work on his S7 edge with one of these plates... But yes wireless charging stopped.

Also he mentioned that the S7 edge was a bit magnetic to begin with without any sort of plate... Maybe worth testing? Probably depends on the case thickness.

Someone posted an app a few pages back. Called bixby remap or something from the play store

Also separate side note to update my post from the other day... If you have an older micro USB wireless charger, and you want to occasionally wired fast charge... Putting the adaptor in the box on the end of the micro USB cable does allow for this (with the original plug)

Just testing some videos off the server using mx player. The s6 edge is playing it fine but the s8 starts slow to actually start the clip then after a few seconds it stops for 5 - 6 seconds starts, plays for a bit, cycle continues.

Any tips?

I don't think the S7E shared the Qi coil and NFC antenna in the same way but I suppose the only way i'll find out for sure is by trying it somewhere!
