**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Tom who did you get that deal with?

Same deal I got. Was MPD/SmartPhoneCompany but they've taken the deal off now to reflect some changes Vodafone made at their end.
Quite correct. best deal seams to be £46 for an S8+ on EE with 15gb now.

I got a deal from SPC with Vodafone... And I'm already with Vodafone... They are making me port to Vodafone PAYG (takes 1 day, but there's a 30 day notice period, so effectively 30 days), then takes 1 working day to get back to my new Vodafone contract

I've had exactly the same problem! When speaking to vodafone whilst being quite annoyed because i asked one of their store employees 3.5 weeks ago if i needed to give notice, they did suggest a better option would be to port my number to another network and then back again, as then there is no notice period.

I went into B&M Bargains today at the recommendation of someone from the Carphone warehouse store near me as all of their payG cards needed to be bought with credit. From B&M I bought a three "200mb free data" sim for 75p, activated that, used my vodafone PAC and that is currently porting. I will then get a PAC from three tomorrow/tuesday and port it back. this is much quicker than the stupid 30 day thing with Voda...

if it helps you can get your PAC code via vodafone's web chat :)

Not doubting it won't work... but I'll be keen to know how you get on with that so I know for next time! :)

Reason being, I spoke to one person at Vodafone who said that you have to be with another provider for 30 days before they let you come back... hence me going with the Vodafone PAYG option.

So let me know how it goes please and hope you don't get stuck on that Three SIM for a month!

I can't find any t&cs regarding that so i really hope you're wrong !

I may be wrong as to be honest Vodafone don't seem to give a straight answer each time lol

One person told me go to Voda PAYG, takes 30 days then come back in 1 day
One person told me go to Voda PAYG, takes 30 days then ANOTHER 30 days to come back to Voda pay monthly
One told me it can all be done in one working day

Lol they really don't seem to have a clue :D Just hoping they don't mess my transfer up next month when they do it

I've done same network port before.

I had to port my number out to SAME network but PAYG for ONE day then back in.
Effectively what Voda are making me do then, just taking 30 days to move me to PAYG as some sort of notice period for cancellation of my contract. I guess the best thing to do in future is to tell them 30 days in advance but I wasn't 100% sure when I was getting the new phone delivered

Debating on sending the 8 back I'll be honest it does absolutely nothing that my s6 edge plus can't do and tbh my edge plus battery is even a little better which is weird, camera isnt a crazy improvement since the camera on s6ep is still fantastic, i don't know maybe i was expecting too much.

Where are you looking for it by the way? It's in the dialer settings/call settings.

Just checking because it wasn't where I was expecting it to be, and doesn't show up by searching settings.

It isn't like the thing upgrading to nougat on the S7 where wifi calling didn't show up untill you turned off wifi calling in Vodafone control panel, waited maybe 10 mins then sent a text to 97888 with just the word CALLING. Once they texted back wifi calling option appeared in phone settings and you were good to go. This was on the S7 though.

Interesting... had a strange feeling this sentiment would pervade after users actually got it in hand, outside the hype....

At the end of the day, any decent smartphone from the last two years is going to do pretty much the same thing.

They have hit a plateau where they are as good as they need to be for their intended function.

Where the s8 is an improvement is in the design and the screen to bezel ratio. You have to decide if that is worth the money to you personally.

Too many people blindly hand over a huge pile of cash every year just so they can say they have the latest and greatest.

I'm still trying to decide whether to get an s8 and sell my s6. The s6 is still a great phone and does all i need.

The lure of the shiny shiny....

You need to get wifi calling set up with vodafone. I did it the other day using the live chat on my vodafone. It's on my account now but I still don't see any options for it. I guess I'll find out if it's worked tomorrow when I get back to work Where I don't get a signal.

Also, I picked up the new samsung wireless charger with a samsung silicone case and a couple of Screen protectors for £45. It means I could finally take the protective wrapping off lol.

Personally, I think the screen is a game changer and well worth the hype. The rest of the phone is nothing more than a decent android handset.

Decent is a bit harsh i would say a very well equipped Android handset as there isn't really any missing features here at all.

I do agree though the screen is a game changer and well worth the hype.

S6 isn't bad but some of us are upgrading from quad cores which frankly just struggle even with daily tasks.

Same reason why I didn't go from note 4 to s7edge or even note7 - it simply didn't feel like enough of an upgrade.

I really like the form factor of the s8 as well due to how narrow it is, it fits easier into pockets where other phones wouldn't have.

I also think this is a good time to upgrade as I don't believe we will get much better performance jump for another 2-3years now until we get foldable phones and what not. 2018-19 will be same kind of move as 820-->821 was so if you're expecting wonders for s9 then you might get disappointed.

I moved from a HTC 10 to the S8 and was 50/50 about the S8. The HTC 10 is just as good if not better then the S8 in some areas. But after using the S8 for a day and going back, the HTC 10 feels weird. The HTC 10 now feels so heavy, square looking and colours look dull.

So it definitely not an upgrade for me, just an expensive side move.
