**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

On the Oreo Beta. Seem to have lost the 'expand video' toggle that YouTube had. Not sure why. Now everything is letterboxed on the sides with no option to change it.

Beta 2 is out in the next couple of days it seems, so this might be one of the feature additions to the new build as it's missing in beta 1.

Hmm seems "OK Google" hotword now works even with the screen off. It was previously thought this was a Pixel/Nexus only feature.

Also, setting the screen mode to Photo sets the ambient light sensor and AMOLED panel to something similar to what Apple use called True Tone Colour. It expands the gamut range and is constantly adjusting the white balance based on the ambient light sensor readings which can also sense the ambient light colour from the same sensor.

It looks weird and off colour at first, but keep it on for a day and you'll notice it changes white balance in different ambient conditions. It's supposed to mimick how paper would look in those same conditions and appears to do a decent job.

Ooo, so it does. Phone's sat on the bed and I just gave it an "OK, Google" and bang, off it goes. Might actually be usable in the car, now.

Update for the BETA out now. Changelog in the app doesn't mention a lot, but it includes October patches apparently. 609.57mb.

EDIT: There is a changelog in the Samsung members app, have a gander there

Beta 2 works well, a lot of missing features of old are back, and some new ones. Edge colour balance in display settings, new clock faces, other missing smaller features etc. Says improved CPU and RAM management too.

Android Pay still won't work because it thinks you're rooted/on an unsupported OS. Looks like Samsung Pay takes over from here on.

OK, so the main thing that's winding me up right now is the severe lack of urgency with which the share sheet - that's what it's called in iOS, never really known what they call it on Android! - populates with icons/quick share options. Sort that and it's surprisingly stable.

Fair play to Samsung though. I took the phone and case into a Samsung store and complained. Took a bit of arguing and speaking to the manager, but they repaired my phone for me then and there. Only had to wait two hours.

Just walked past a huge queue for the iPhone X, I don't understand the mentality of people that queue to buy a phone.

Made sure to pull out my S8+ and walked extra slow next to them. :o

Amazing people are queueing up to part with £1000 for a phone that is inferior to one you can buy for half the price

Such is the cult of apple I guess :p

Come on now. I've got a Galaxy S8+ but let's not be kidding ourselves here. That's at best a matter of opinion. At worst, it's wrong.

Let's all just get along with whatever phone we like, yeah? :)
