**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

The last couple of betas have started to throw up the kinds of app compatibility weirdness we have come to expect from these things. With the last two betas I've noticed two things in particular that I'd be curious if anyone else has noticed/can test:

  • The Starling Bank app - it can't connect to the server, meaning you can't make payments or check transactions.
  • The Sheffield Star Green 'Un app - Basically a web wrapper, but it's showing the same kind of thing in that it can't connect to the server to get content.
I've no idea why either would have issues connecting to a server on the betas, but something's obviously changed. Hopefully the next beta sorts it!
 
This may be a stupid question, I've had the phone since release and I've still not dealt with this - is there a way to get Bixby to do one? Every time I nudge the button on the side it pops up and its doing my head in.

I know a fair few here have dbrand skins due to the glass back, which one do you prefer, leather probably be the "comfiest"?

I've had the brushed dbrand skin, the matte and the dragon. Dragon is by far the best feeling and looking!

Guys, just nipping in here from the Note 8 thread, what sort of battery life are you guys getting with the slightly higher capacity battery? I am plenty happy with the 6 hours screen on time at a decent brightness (my average at the moment), is the S8 or plus substantially better?

Up to 27 hours is my optimal average, sometimes I can go nearly a whole weekend on one charge with the S8+. The Oreo beta is a bit less though of course, but the latest beta 3 is much improved.

I've noticed this with some banking apps too, had to turn off full screen mode for them and noticed in settings it does say that these apps may not work correctly if full screen is used on them.

I've actually noticed that it seems to happen to a whole bunch of apps seemingly at random, with the fix usually being a restart of the phone. Then, at some point, another app will not be able to talk to a web service so I have to restart again. Starting to wind me up, I've got to admit.

To be honest, it only dawned one me today that this is what's going on so no, not yet. I've just put the kids to bed though so, baring one of them waking up and doing an Exorcist impression again, I'm planning on doing it tonight.

Just ordered an S8 direct from Samsung they have a trade in deal of a £100 voucher plus the value of your recycled phone, I got £110 for my S6 giving me a £210 discount, I also have access to Samsung Employee portal where the S8 is £579 so effectively paid £369 for a S8.
 
You can get access to the Samsung Portal via the Blue light card. (Emergency services/NHS/Coastguard/Military discount card)
 
Has anybody had any success with screen protectors on the S8? all the reviews for even the branded makes don't seem too good?

Yeah saw those trade in deals, unfortunately only a handful of slightly older samsung devices are eligible for trade in :(

I've tried a couple. One stuck down well but made the touch sensitivity very poor to useless and the other just peeled at the edges, more so when case was fitted.

To be honest my screen is pretty pristeen. I'm careful but working in agriculture get plenty of dust and crap in my pockets, on occasions. It's been best screen I've had for not scratching. Personally I'd say save your money. Drop it onto a hard surface though and all bets are off. I'm sure someone will be along and disagree with me saying they scratched theirs after 5 minutes

Thanks Rich as I said from reading the reviews they all tend to agree with your summary, seams I get one with the starter pack that's included with my phone so I'll give that a go first and see what happens.

From what I can see the trade in can be pretty much any phone, Have you tried the link? I know they had a previous offer that overlapped where you needed a specific IPhone for the voucher.

Found it now.

Only £30 for my device so even with £100 voucher, still works out dearer than from amazon etc.
