**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

As soon as that?!

Reckon the Gs 8 price will get slashed after its announcement? Not really followed samsung devices in the past so not sure if they do or not...

They never really slash the price of the old model, at least not straight away. I noticed the S7 took a small price drop but surprised me what they were going for both new and s/h once the S8 was out.

The few 'leaks' about the S9 talk about it being only a small upgrade against the S8. Time will tell of course. In my entire phone history it is the first time I'm quite happy to stick with the phone I have. Screen has no protector on and is still pristine. Battery is holding pretty much the same charge it was when it was new. Few months back the Tech Guys took it in for repair as top speaker failed. On the repair report it made no mention of the speaker but said they had changed both front and rear glass, battery and vibration motor so both glass and battery may not be original. Speaker was fixed and worked better than original. I suspect they broke the glass taking phone apart

But phone is still slick enough (on Oreo beta), display is great and never have any issues. Well I say that but the damned 'Home' button keeps activating phone in my pocket. No way to turn that off? Seems more sensative since it was repaired and have sensitivity turned down. Also lock phone or end up butt dialing peeps.

I thought most of the rumours were pointing to the gs 9 being vastly different in terms of design?

But yeah hardware wise, probably not much will change.

Just don't want to buy the gs8 for £550 now only to find gs 9 right around corner for about £600

The ones I read say not so much. Maybe fingerprint reader under glass at front. I've not read many or taken much notice so don't take much notice of me :D Be interesting to see what they come up with. Just so long as it's not silly iPhone money! Probably worth waiting to see what S9 is going to be like though.

I'm using Opera. I've found it's one of the few that reflow text properly when you zoom in - you don't have to scroll left/right to read? That said I've not checked others lately. Sync bookmarks and open tabs with Opera on other devices and laptops and find the 'speed dials' handy. Options are sparse and Opera development is as fast an asthmatic slug

Getting my number ported across soon, once I've migrated my data it will become my daily driver.

Is the stock app the best for taking pictures?

Do you guys have any app recommendations and any tips/tricks? Or if there's a conclusive list for new users, that would be helpful!

Thanks

Another question....

USB C cables, having got myself an S8 and the wife an A5 I need to try and replace the micro USB cables dotted around work/house/cars, I was planning on getting the Anker grey twin pack but doing some more research they only appear to be usb 2.0 and can't do quick charge, tempted by the syncwire cables? What are people using, any recommendations?

Meh ordered from amazon. CBA waiting any longer, need to get something before this 5x bootloops and besides getting full refund from amazon for the 5x so gs 8 doesn't work out that much in the end.

So what are the recommend screen settings for as natural/accurate as possible and also best camera settings for photos?

@mrk

Congrats.
sRGB is named Basic mode on Samsung's.

Dont assume basic mode is the best, try them all and pick your favourite because all the screen modes are calibrated at 0 lux and in any kind of light the coverage (accuracy) drops as the light increases. Photo mode is closer to 100% sRGB coverage than basic mode is in daylight for example.

Maybe one day Android phones will have a system similar to True Tone so the screen adapts to ambient lighting.
