**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I am thinking of getting ther S8, the S8+ doesn't seem worth it unless it has a stylus. I'm 1 year into my contract but with O2 I can upgrade in 12 days, so I'm hoping I can get in and pre-order as soon as the S8 is launched on the 29th, not sure what O2 will do, but they pay the phone part of the contract off. Given the high price of the S8 I wonder how much higher my contract will be with an S8, I hope it doesn't go up much :(((((((((

Coming from an £18pm sim only deal with my Z3c it's going to be weird paying £35+ a month instead. Recycling companies will give me £60 odd for the phone to go against an upfront cost but the whole idea when I don't really need an upgrade sounds expensive. I'm looking forward to having some new tech to play with though!

They really could have given it a chin and moved the retarded fingerprint sensor position back to the front which would have massively improved usability.

It's typical Samsung dating back to the S3 - practicality always comes second. Such a waste of what should have been an undisputed and unconditional response to the Note 7 catastrophe.

They're going to have to pull some damn good magic tricks from their sleeves at the reveal to get any of us semi-intelligent beings interested.

But then it wouldn't look as sleek. The whole point of this design is to look as sleek as possible with as little bezels as possible and I think it looks gorgeous. I never use the finger print so that's not an issue to me. I think its a stunning design.

That's the problem, isn't it? To look gorgeous it makes compromises which affect usability. Since when was that a good idea?

100pc think that for a few mm, better to have finger print on front or side.

And although I love the look of my s7E it's unusable to me without a case. My fingers always make contact with the display

It looks as impractical as I expected it to, definitely glad I got the Pixel just before Christmas rather than waiting for this. I know opinion differs but give me a good bezel any day, it makes holding it (and picking it up) a hell of a lot easier, my S6E+ was a nightmare without a case on it and IF a case is an absolute must then that just defeats the entire purpose of the design IMO.

The old S6E and even S7E had far to much curvature on the edge - ths S8 looks to be like the Note 7 was, much less of a curvature making it easier to hold.

Give me flat any day!

800 for a phone is taking the pee

Most I will spend is 400, never have spent more.

What does the s8 have that is worth near on double the price?
I do understand that this is an inflated price (hopefully)
800 can get you a semi ok second hand car

If that was RRP I would be looking at s7E/pixel if I was buying in next few months

That's a ridiculous price, I guess they want S8 owners to help pay for their note fiasco. The trouble is when they push up the price of the high end then the mid range prices creep up as well, suddenly your £400 isn't enough.

I was one of the first adopters of big screens when the Note originally came out, I got the odd comment about Dom Joly etc then all phones got bigger and bigger over time, I think its time to stop the increases and concentrate on more resilient materials so we don't have to use covers which make them almost beyond use with one hand altogether. Pricing is becoming a finance only option too which needs addressing. You can buy a decent laptop and mobile phone for what the main flagship phones on the market are RRPing for.

This is the first time I don't actually feel like I want to upgrade my phone... the S7 has just been so awesome. :)

I'm like this with my S6. It's still a brilliant phone, in mint condition and does everything I want it to do. I struggle to see what the S8 will give me extra over it that's really worth money to me. My phone is used for calls, texts, emails, the odd photo, whatsapp, a bit of web browsing and checking bus times. An S6 is almost overkill just for that.

I also buy my phones on contract. My current phone contract is £5 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 1GB data. If I get a new phone, that pushes my monthly outlay to nearly £40 a month. Waste of money if you ask me.
