**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Pixel XL it is then :p

I actually really don't mind about the headphone jack, if it lead to an extra feature like dual speakers for instance it's a well worth sacrifice IMO.

That being said, you just know you'll be caught at a party or in a car where the only method of playing your music will be a 3.5mm jack lead, and I wouldn't have thought I'd be carrying the adapter with me 24/7.

I shouldn't have to go back to a dedicated player when there's a standard universal connection that still offers better quality than any wireless solution.

Also, this on the back of the Last Note reveal where they joked at Apple for removing it.

You don't have to buy an S8, it's entirely optional whether you get one or not. The better quality isn't an argument. The latest Bluetooth standards have enough bandwidth to transmit the audio without compromising quality. It's digital, so the sound isn't going to degrade.

I did think for a while that no 3.5mm jack is just daft.

But it's really not, a good BT headset is fine for the times you use your phone. Well for me anyway, I never carry about my proper cans anyway.

So many fools over at reddit going absolutely insane about the headphones jack being ditched.

I bet the box comes with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter thrown in, just like how we got the USB-A to micro USB adapter with the S7.

Samsung has the best screen to case bezel ratio of any mass market phone, pretty confident the S8 will retain similar size to an S7, but just have a bigger screen due to the full screen display.

Is S7 bigger than S6? I have an S6 and struggle with the size sometimes (i have girl hands :p)

I'm not a big fan of really small bezels, I have the S6 Edge Plus and I find it damn annoying to use without a case on it to add some bulk to the sides to grip. Typing with the 'bezel-less' display is a pain in the neck (or thumbs to be precise).

I have to say I do like the Pixel bezels, no chance of failed palm rejection there.

Smaller, but 1.1mm thicker due to the bigger battery.

Galaxy S6: 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm / 5.1" display / 2550mAh battery
Galaxy S7: 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm / 5.1" display / 3000mAh battery

Do you have little lady hands? As the other guy says, higher screen to body ratios mean that displays can get quite a bit bigger without the overall size increasing.

Urgh seriously. Can some people still not accept that not everyone wants phones to keep getting bigger and bigger without it being to do with small hands or tight jeans.

But yeah, hopefully its just the screen that's increasing and not the overall size.

I can understand some resistance to this change, but its surely inevitable, even if many of us did mock apple for it.

I do wish a new standard could have been agreed though, but I guess everyone will just USB-C, except for Apple who just have to be different.

Just a thought but don't most users who listen to music on their phone carry their headphones round with them all the time? if so you just leave the adapter on your headphones like a lot of Apple users do.

Means you cant charge your phone whilst listening to music though... Unless you want wireless charging.

How is that a good thing???? You need some bezel else it'll be pretty much impossible to type!

The side bezels are already slim enough, it's the top and bottom bezels I'm on about. Nobody types with the phone sideways.

As for charging while listening to music, I can't think of a single situation where charging would be hindered when listening to music via a C to 3.5mm adapter. All scenarios where this would be a thing points to the inconvenience. The logical solution is Qi wireless charging for desktop listening while charging.

Alternatively a C to dual C output dongle, so one for power, one for headphones/whatever else.

Android users will have more options to play with here than what iPhone 7 owners have currently because of the open nature of the Type-C connection and support from the OS for these connection options.

It's mostly a non-issue being turned into an issue by people who fear change. The iPhone crowd did the exact same thing, and now most of them rock the 7.

This. I won't buy a phone that is any bigger than the regular S7 (ie ~5 inch screen). Anything bigger and it is awkward/not very portable.

Only recently got an S7 Edge. It's my first ever Android phone (iPhone since the 4 previously) and it is an incredible device. I bought it outright too with a sim only contract ticking over the data allowance etc. So if the S8 Edge is a significant jump (particularly for the VR resolution with the headset) then I might well go for it.
